BUFFALO, N.Y. — Niagara volleyball dropped a four-set match to crosstown rival Canisius (23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21) Wednesday night at the Koessler Athletic Center, falling to 12-11 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
How it Happened
Despite taking the opening set, the Purple Eagles struggled to maintain consistency, posting a .106 hitting percentage across the match while Canisius hit .199.
Junior outside hitter
Kinga Wronska led Niagara's offense with a match-high 18 kills, though she was challenged by Canisius' strong blocking presence at the net.
Laryssa Imbuzeiro added an efficient nine kills on .368 hitting.
The Purple Eagles showed early promise, taking the first set 25-23 behind strong serving that included two late kills from
Liana Tolliver. However, Canisius adjusted their defense in the second set, holding Niagara to a -.171 hitting percentage while building momentum that carried through the remainder of the match.
Kylie Blessing directed the Purple Eagles' offense with 48 assists while libero
Bella Peroni anchored the defense with 24 digs. Niagara managed seven total blocks but struggled to slow down Canisius' diverse attacking scheme, which saw four players record eight or more kills.
