Purple Eagles Soar to 7-3 Victory Over RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. - Seven different Purple Eagles found the back of the net in a historic offensive showing as Niagara defeated Robert Morris 7-3 on Friday night at Clearview Arena to open Atlantic Hockey America play.
 
How it Happened
Nathan Oickle opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 7:33 of the first period, marking the first of what would become a program first for Niagara (2-2-1, 1-0-0) with seven different goal scorers in a single game.
 
The Purple Eagles broke the game open in the second period with four goals, including power-play tallies from Trevor Hoskin and Tyler Wallace. Ethan Lund and Noah Hackett also scored in the middle frame as Niagara built a 5-1 lead.
 
After Robert Morris (2-1-0, 0-1-0) cut the deficit to 5-3 midway through the third period, Jay Ahearn and Spencer Young sealed the victory with late goals for the Purple Eagles.
 
Pierce Charleson was solid in net for Niagara, making 32 saves to earn the win.
 
Trevor Hoskin, Shane Ott, Braden Doyle, and Drew Vieten each recorded two assists for the Purple Eagles, who converted on 2-of-2 power play opportunities in the victory.

• Niagara improves to 38-31-10 against Robert Morris, including 13 wins in Moon Township.
• The seven Purple Eagles to score a goal is a program first.
• Four Purple Eagles recorded a pair of assists.
• Niagara last scored seven goals in a game on March 5, 2023 in a game against Sacred Heart.
• The Purple and White have recorded five or more goals in back-to-back games for the first time since March 8 and 9 of 2024 when it defeated Sacred Heat by the final scores of 5-1 and 6-3.
• Niagara has scored a power play goal in each game this season, including two in each of the last two games. NU's last two-game stretch with multiple power play goals came last season in games against AIC (Feb. 10), and Army (Feb. 16).
• The Purple Eagles last recorded at least one power play goal in five-straight games during the 2022-23 season. 
• Niagara's 20 goals through the first five games is the most under head coach Jason Lammers in his tenure.
• Oickle notched his first career goal in the first period.
• Ahearn recorded his team-leading fourth goal of the season and 21st of his career.
• Hoskin's three goals in his first five career games is the most by a Niagara freshman since Ludwig Stenlund in 2018-19.
