Purple Eagles Suffer Overtime Heartbreaker Against St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Niagara Purple Eagles fell to St. Lawrence 4-3 in overtime Saturday night in non-conference hockey action from Appleton Arena.
 
How it Happened
Niagara (0-2-0) struck first with a short-handed goal by Shane Ott at 9:25 of the opening period. The goal was assisted by Glebs Prohorenkovs and Nathan Oickle.
 
After St. Lawrence (3-1-0) tied it early in the second, Spencer Young put the Purple Eagles back on top 2-1 with just 34 seconds left in the period. Brett Roloson and Alex Murray picked up assists on the play.
 
With the game tied 2-2 in the third, Niagara capitalized on a power play opportunity when Trevor Hoskin found the back of the net at 14:55, giving the Purple Eagles a 3-2 advantage. Ott collected his second point of the night with an assist.
 
St. Lawrence managed to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation before scoring the game-winner three minutes into overtime.
 
Niagara goaltender Deivs Rolovs made 26 saves in the losing effort.
 
Niagara Notes
• Saturday marked the 12th meeting all-time between NU and SLU, with the Purple and White moving to 4-7-1 in the series.
• Hoskin and Young both scored their first career goals, while Oickle and Brett Roloson were credited with their first assists as Purple Eagles. 
• Ott led Niagara with two points on a goal and an assist, recording his first multi-point game since Feb. 20, 2024 against Mercyhurst.
• Rolovs 26 saves is the most by a Purple Eagle goalie in their first start for Niagara since Mitchell Day stopped 34 shots in his first career start last season.
