Ithaca, N.Y.—The Niagara tennis teams traveled to Cornell on Saturday as both the men's and women's team faced the Big Red. Both teams fell in their matches, the women fell 7-0 and men fell 6-1.
Women's Recap
Doubles
Coral Rodriguez and Gabriela Melo teamed in second doubles. Niagara fell in the match despite taking three games from the Big Red.
In third doubles Enrica Favaron and Larisa Kotok fell 6-0 to the duo from Cornell.
Jaida Borg and Elena Mayet were slotted in first doubles and trailed 5-2 before the match was stopped due to Cornell taking the doubles point already.
Singles
Mayet was slotted in first singles, she fell 6-0 in the first set and could not force a tiebreaker as she fell 6-1.
Rodriguez fell 6-0, 6-0 in her second singles match.
Borg won one game in her first set but fell 6-1 and then fell 6-0 in the second set.
Melo was slotted in fourth singles in her second collegiate match. After winning her first NCAA match against Youngstown State last weekend, she fell in two sets on Saturday. She fell 6-1 in the first set, in the second set she fell 7-6 after falling 5-0 in the tiebreaker.
Kotok dropped her fifth singles match after falling in both sets 6-2.
Favaron fell in straight sets as she dropped her first set 6-3, in the second set she fell 6-2.
Men's Recap
Doubles
Tanner Bedard teamed up with freshman Vid Maric, the duo fell 6-1 in their first match of the spring.
Reigning All-MAAC duo Manuel Alonso and Gurustat Makkar played their match of the spring in the second doubles position. The duo won two sets but fell 6-2.
Bryce Bodak and Roberto Vaca played third doubles and won three sets but ultimately fell 6-3.
Singles
Freshman José Maria García made his collegiate debut in the sixth singles position. He won the first set 6-3 before securing his first win with a 6-3 win in the second set.
Bedard was slotted in the first singles position. He won five games in the first set and four in the second set but fell 7-5 and 6-4 in his first match of the spring.
Maric fell 6-1, 6-3 in second singles.
Alonso fell 6-0 in his first set in third singles. He could not force a tiebreaker set as he fell 6-2 in the second set.
Makkar was slotted in fourth singles. He fell 6-4 in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second set.
Bodak took five games in the first set but fell 7-5, in the second set he could not force a third set as he fell 6-2.

The women's team is back in action on Feb. 2 as they host Oakland in a non-conference match at South Town Tennis Club. The men's team returns to the court on Feb. 4 as they take on Daemen.
