NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The visiting Le Moyne Dolphins scored three-unanswered goals to defeat Niagara (1-3) Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action by the final score of 3-2.
Isabella Mazzaferro and
Katie Diem scored the Purple Eagles tallies.
How it Happened
Niagara struck first when
Amanda Cripps sent a cross in toward the back post, finding the head of Purple Eagle freshman, Mazzaferro, who would find the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the sixth minute of play.
In the 33rd minute of action, Cripps would once again send a cross in toward the back post and find Mazaferro who headed the ball to Diem for Niagara's second goal of the contest.
The Dolphins cut the Purple Eagle lead in half in the 40th minute and tie the game in the 45th to go into the break with the score even at 2-2.
Early on in the second half, Mazzaferro nearly scored her second goal of the contest but the Le Moyne keeper was there for the save. The Purple Eagles would keep pushing for the go-ahead goal, taking five shots from the 57th minute to the 65th minute of play, with three going wide of the goal and two being thwarted by the Dolphin goalie.
In the 71st minute of play Cripps launched a shot from around 20 yards out that was denied by an outstretched Le Moyne goalie.
With a minute and a half to go the Dolphins would get behind the Niagara backline and beat
Felicia Grufman for the game-winning goal.
