Garlow & Ling Lead Niagara to Victory

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Led by five goals from senior Lois Garlow and 11 saves from freshman goalie Katie Ling, the Purple Eagles earned an 11-8 win over visiting Quinnipiac on Saturday morning in MAAC women's lacrosse action from Niagara Field.
 
With the win, Niagara improves to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in MAAC play.
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• With Quinnipiac up 2-0, Garlow Riley Latray found Garlow for Niagara's first tally of the contest.
• Niagara would take three more shots in the frame but was unable to find the equalizer.
• The Bobcats would make it a 3-1 game with 1:18 remaining in the first.
 
Second Quarter
• Garlow would record her second goal of the game and the 100th of her career to make it a 3-2 Bobcat ead with 9:44 to play in the first half.
• After the Bobcats went up 4-2, the Purple Eagles would get goals from Rachel Crane and Garlow to tie the game at 4-4, with 3:29 remaining in the quarter.
• The Bobcats would regain a one-goal advantage with 2:03 on the clock, but the Purple and White would tie the contest at five with a Latray free position goal with less than a minute before the intermission.
 
Third Quarter
• After no goals for the first 10 minutes of action in the second half, Quinnipiac would take a 7-5 lead over NU with back-to-back goals.
• The Purple Eagles lone tally of the quarter came with 1:50 remaining when R. Crane beat the Quinnipiac keeper for her 29th goal of the season.
• Despite allowing two goals in the frame, Ling made four of her 11 saves in the third period.
 
Fourth Quarter
•  R. Crane would tie the game less than a minute into the fourth with her third goal of the contest.
• Garlow and first-year Purple Eagle Giordan Peck would keep Niagara's foot on the gas with goals of their own, giving Niagara its first lead of the contest, 9-7, with 9:45 to go.
• Ling would notch her 10th save of the contest on a free-position stop, keeping NU in front.
• Quinnipiac would get one goal back at the 7:51 mark, but Garlow and Jenna Brill would keep the Bobcats out of striking distance with a pair of goals in the final five minutes, giving the game its 11-8 final.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara extended its win streak over Quinnipiac to ten games and are now 10-1 all-time against the Bobcats.
• Garlow became the eighth Purple Eagle in program history to reach the century mark in goals scored. She has 104 in her career, which ranks seventh all-time.
• R. Crane is now five goals from 100 for her career. 
• Ling became the first freshman goalie for Niagara to make double-digit saves since Michelle Messenger '22 stopped 11 on April 17, 2019.
Sydney Huhtala led NU with tree caused turnovers and three draw controls. Her 25 caused turnovers on the season are tied for fourth all-time and are the most by a first-year member of the Purple and White.  
• Latray's two assists gives her 25 on the season, eighth most by a Purple Eagle.

• Niagara concludes its three-game homestand with Senior Day next Saturday, April 8 when it welcomes Iona to Monteagle Ridge for a 1 p.m. tilt on ESPN3.
