Hawaii Defeats Niagara, 2-1

HONOLULU, O'AHU – The game between Niagara and Hawaii Tuesday afternoon was called in the bottom of the sixth inning due to rain, giving the Rainbow Warriors a 2-1 win over the Purple Eagles.
 
Maddie Hickingbottom went 5.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out three, falling to 1-7 on the season. Hannah Mingle drove in the lone Niagara run, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
 
Game Recap
• The game started with a walk from Lindsay Mayo and a single from Kaity McInall, but the Purple and White were unable to push across the game's opening run.
• Niagara starter, Maddie Hickingbottom would work her way in to, and out of, a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half of the first to keep the game scoreless.
• In the bottom of the second Hawaii would score the game's first run on a triple down the left field line, and add one more on a wild pitch, to take a 2-0 lead over NU.
• In the top of the third, Kaity McInall would move Karena Recrosio and Mayo, who reached on back-to-back singles to start the inning, into scoring position, where they would be left stranded to end the inning.
• With Shayna Myshrall standing on second with one away in the top of the fourth, Hannah Mingle would single to right field to push across Niagara's first run of the game and cut the Hawaii lead in half.
• The game would be called due to rain with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara dropped to 0-7 all-time against Hawaii.
• Mingle collected her second RBI of the season and third of her career.
• Mayo now leads the team with 15 hits and five walks after going 1-for-1 with a walk in the contest.
• Marrero collected her first double of the season and has an extra-base hit in two of her last four games.
• Niagara went 1-for-6 with two outs and 3-for-14 with runners on.
• Niagara's leadoff batters went 5-for-6 at the plate.
 
Up Next
• Niagara will open MAAC play on April 1 with a doubleheader against Marist in Poughkeepsie, NY. First pitch of the twin bill between the Purple Eagles and Red Foxes is set for noon.
