Niagara Falls in Game Two Against Portland

Portland, OR—The Niagara baseball team fell in the second game of four game series against Portland, the Purple Eagles forced extra innings but fell in the bottom of the 10th.
Game Recap
  • For the second straight night Nick Groves drew a leadoff walk and swiped second in the first inning. After an out, Groves then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Cole Tucker then drove in the first run of the game to give Niagara a 1-0 lead.
  • Portland tied the game at one in the bottom half of the inning as they scored on a RBI single.
  • The Pilots added two more in the bottom of the second and they notched three hits in the inning.
  • Niagara responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as Max Giordano blasted a homer to left center, it was his third homer of the season to make it a 3-2 game.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Portland scored their fourth run of the game on a double to left. In the sixth, the Pilots scored their fifth run on a SAC fly to right.
  • The Purple Eagles started its comeback in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Groves reached on an error. Kelly Corl was they next batter and he hit his first homer as a Purple Eagle to make it a 5-4.
  • Down a run in the top of the ninth, Vincent Mauro opened the inning with a single up the middle. Milk Nate then pinch ran for Mauro and moved up to third on a double down the left field line by Groves. Milk then tied the game on a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Steven Hospital worked out of a bases load jam to force extra innings.
  • The Purple Eagles got runners on first and second in the top of the 10th but could not push across the go ahead run.
  • In the bottom of the tenth, the Pilots walked it off on a safety squeeze play.
Niagara Notes
  • Giordano went four for five at the plate with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Groves came around to scored twice as he had a hit and walk.
  • Marcus Cashman started on the mound and went 4+ innings while allowing four runs on four hits and had four strikeouts. His ERA this season is now 2.57 in three starts.
  • Zach Cameron came out of the pen and went 1.2 innings with three strikeouts, he did not allow a baserunner.
  • The Purple Eagles notched double digit hits for the third time this season.
