Purple and White Fall to Kent State and UMBC Sunday Afternoon

BALTIMORE, MD – The Purple Eagles fell to both Kent State and UMBC Sunday afternoon in non-conference softball action at the UMBC Round Robin.
 
Game 1 Recap: F/5: Niagara 0, Kent State 9
• A two-run home run gave the Golden Flashes a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first.
Riley Crum would be replaced by Julia Thompson in the circle to start the fourth.
• Following the pitching change for NU, Kent State would score four runs to take a 6-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
• A three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth would give Kent State a 9-0 win over NU.
 
Niagara Notes
Lindsay Mayo, Hailey Cenname and Shayna Myshrall picked up Niagara's three hits in the contest.
• Crum finished with 3.0 innings, one strikeout, two hits, and two earned runs.

 
Game 2 Recap: F: Niagara 1, UMBC 6
• UMBC scored three runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-0 lead over Niagara.
• The Retrievers would add three more in the bottom of the sixth, using a pair of singles to go up 6-0.
Jaden Swiatek drove in Niagara's lone run of the afternoon with an RBI single up the middle to drive in Maggie Kellner.
Hannah Mingle would groundout to end the game and give UMBC its 6-1 win.  
 
Niagara Notes
Maddie Hickingbottom got the start for Niagara, going 4.1 innings, striking out five and allowing three runs on five hits.
Cara Leone came in to pitch the remainder of the ballgame, allowing three runs (one earned).
• Mayo, Kaity McInall, Samantha Hare, Kellner and Swiatek recorded NU's five hits, all of which were singles.
• Mayo recorded her third stolen base of the season.
