Hickingbottom Leads Niagara to 2-0 Win Over Bona

HONOLULU, O'AHU – A complete game shutout from Maddie Hickingbottom led Niagara (2-3) to a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure (0-7) on day one of the Hawaii Spring Fling.
 
Hickingbottom finished with nine strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and one free pass across seven innings of work en route to her first win of the season. Lindsay Mayo and Maggie Kellner each recorded two hits and an RBI in the contest.
 
Game Recap
• Hickingbottom struck out the side in the second inning, keeping the game scoreless.  
• A leadoff single by Samantha Hare in the top of the fourth gave NU its first hit of the contest. Hare would steal second and come around to score on a single up the middle from Maggie Kellner, giving Niagara a 1-0 lead in the middle innings.
Bayleigh McCullough led Niagara off with a single through the right side in the fifth inning, leading to a sacrifice bunt from Karena Recrosio to put the sophomore infielder into scoring position and turn the lineup over.
Lindsay Mayo, a sophomore transfer would then double down the left field line to give Niagara a two-run advantage after five innings of play.
• Hickingbottom would set the Bonnies down in order in the fifth and sixth inning.
• NU would put runners on second and third in the top of the seventh, looking to add to its lead, but Bona would escape the jam and keep the score 2-0.
• After a leadoff single by the Bonnies, Hickingbottom would strike out two of three to earn the complete game shutout.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara improves to 18-16 over St. Bonaventure dating back to the 2003 season, with Thursday's win being the first for Niagara in the series since a 6-4 victory in 2019.
• Hickingbottom's complete game shutout was the first of the season for the Georgetown, Ontario native.
• Hare came across to score for the third time this season, while McCullough crossed the plate for the second time.
