Tennis Splits Home Match Against Saint Francis

Williamsville, N.Y.—The Niagara tennis teams returned to Western New York on Saturday as both the men's and women's teams hosted Saint Francis (PA) in non-conference matches. The men took the 6-1 win while the women fell 4-3.
Men's Recap
Doubles Singles
  • Bedard won his match in second singles, he won the first set 6-4 and followed it up in the second set winning 6-0.
  • Masi earned a point for the Purple Eagles as he won his third singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Alonso notched his second win of the day in fourth singles. He won the opening set 6-2 and came from behind in the second set to win 6-4.
  • In fifth doubles, Sedeno won his opening set 6-3. Just like Alonso, Sedeno trailed in the second match but came out ahead 7-6.
  • Makkar was slotted in the sixth singles match. He won the open set 6-4 and won the second set 6-4 for the win.
Women's Recap
Doubles Singles
  • Gonzalez rode her momentum into third doubles as she won in straight sets. She won 7-5 in the first set and won the point with a 6-4 win in the second set.
  • In fourth singles Jaida Bord forced a third set after falling 7-5 in the first set. She won the second set 6-3 but fell 7-5 in the third set.
  • Velasco also carried her momentum into singles as she won the first set 6-4. After falling 7-5 in the second set she won 6-3 in third set to secure the win.
Niagara Notes
  • The men's team this season is 9-7 in doubles while the duo of Masi and Bedard have three wins to lead all the combos.
  • Seven different Purple Eagles on the men's team have multiple wins this season. Masi, Sedeno, and Bedard have three while Alonso, Bryce Bodak, Makkar, and Vaca have two this season.
  • The women's team has a 4-3 record in both the third singles position and the fifth singles position.
