Purple Eagles Roll Past Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MICH. – Senior Lois Garlow and junior Andra Savage each found the back of the net four times and juniors Lexi Braniecki and Rachel Crane combined for another five goals Thursday afternoon as the Purple Eagles dominated Eastern Michigan in a 18-4 road win.
 
First Quarter
• The Purple Eagles struck first on Thursday, going up 2-0 after goals from Savage and Braniecki.
• After Eastern Michigan scored its first goal of the contest, R. Crane tallied her second goal of the season with 6:30 remaining in the opening frame.
Emma Mielke, who made the start in goal for Niagara stopped two of the three shots she faced in the opening frame.
• Niagara finished the quarter with nine shots on goal.
 
Second Quarter
• Braniecki tallied her second goal of the game to start the second, a player-up goal assisted by Riley Latray to give NU a 4-1 lead.
Lois Garlow tallied back-to-back goals to give Niagara a 6-1 lead with 11:31 to go in the first half of play.
• Savage, who recorded assist on Garlow's second goal, notched her second goal of the contest to make it a five-goal advantage for the Purple Eagles.
• The junior would get the first half hat trick moments later, giving NU an 8-1 lead over Eastern Michigan.
Eliza Wild recorded her first goal of the season with 6:40 remaining in the second stanza, giving Niagara a 9-1 lead.
• Less than a minute later, R. Crane scored Niagara's 10th goal of the contest, her second of the game.
• Braniecki would also record a first half hat trick, giving the Purple Eagles a ten-goal advantage with just over five minutes to go in the second quarter.
• Niagara would add a 12th goal 1:20 before the break when Garlow beat the Eastern Michigan keeper for her third goal of the contest.
 
Third Quarter
• Garlow collected her fourth goal of the game to start the second half putting NU up 13-1.
• Latray found Lucy Rugaber for Niagara's 14th tally of the contest with 5:05 remaining in the first quarter of the second half.
• Savage also recorded her fourth goal of the game in the third quarter with 2:10 remaining in the frame, giving the Purple and White a 15-1 lead.
 
Fourth Quarter
• Eastern Michigan would score twice to open the final quarter, making it a 15-3 game with just over 10 minutes to go.
• Niagara rattled off three-straight to go up 18-3, with goals from freshman Hannah Kent, sophomore Catherine Larrow, and freshman Maddy Gill.
• The Eagles would add a fourth goal in the final minute of the contest to give the game its 18-4 final.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara improves to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2019 when it started 3-0 on the season.
• Thursday marked the first win of ten or more goals for the Purple and White since its 16-6 win over Central Connecticut State on Feb. 23, 2019.
• Garlow and Savage each recorded their second four-goal games of the season.
• Latray, who led NU with four assists in the season opener, tallied five helpers in Thursday's win.
• Niagara goalies, Mielke, Jordan Roy, and Katie Ling combined for four saves.
• Larrow, who tallied her first career goal, led the team with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Mara Hathaway finished the game with two caused turnovers.
• Niagara finished 12-for-13 on clear attempts, picked up 23 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers.
• Kent and Gill recorded their first career goals in the win.

• Niagara will continue its three-game road swing with a trip to Eugene, Ore., on Saturday, Feb. 18. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. eastern time and 1 p.m. pacific.
