LOUDONVILLE, NY - Niagara (2-9-2, 1-3-1 MAAC) played to a 1-1 draw at Siena (3-6-3, 2-1-2 MAAC) Saturday afternoon as the Saints scored with nine seconds on the clock to tie the game and spoil NU's near win.
Amanda Cripps scored the goal for the Purple and White, her second of the season.
How it Happened
Niagara took four shots in the first 25 minutes of the competition, including a shot by freshman
Caitlyn Grady that was saved in the fourth minute.
Emma Bough, Cripps, and
Katie Diem all had shots go wide.
Agnes Stenlund would make one of her six saves in the opening 15 minutes of action, keeping the game scoreless.
The Purple and White would take five shots from the 30th minute to the 40th minute, including one from Emily Hähnel that was saved by the Siena keeper and three off-target attempts from Cripps.
The half would end with a pair of saves from Stenlund, the first in the 42nd minute and the other in the final minute of first half.
Siena would take six shots to open the second, the first of which was stopped by the Niagara back line, another was saved by Stenlund, and another went off the woodwork.
Cripps took NU's first shot of the second half, an attempt in the 61st minute that went wide. Hähnel would have a shot stopped by the Saints keeper in the 71st minute, however, minutes later, the fifth-year would send a free kick into the box, finding
Maia MacLean whose shot went off the woodwork leading to a rebound attempt for Cripps that found the back of the net, giving NU a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute.
Fast forward to the final 30-seconds of action, a free kick would be awarded to Siena with 17 seconds on the clock, leading to the Saints setting up a cross that found Maya Costa for the game-tying goal with nine seconds remaining in the game.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara moves to 11-11-5 all-time against Siena. Saturday marked the first tie in the series since Oct. 12, 2003, a 2-2 draw in Loudonville.
• Cripps matched her season-high with six shots. The Bradford, Ontario, product now leads NU with six points after recording her second goal of the season.
• MacLean recorded her first assist of the season, the juniors first assist Nov. 3, 2022.
• Stenlund finished with six saves.
• Niagara recorded four shots on goal for the second-straight game and third time this season.
• NU's two corners on the day are the second-fewest in a game this season.
