Purple Eagles Can't Earn Weekend Split With Bentley

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara hockey team could not earn a weekend split with Bentley after they fell to the Falcons on Saturday night at Dwyer Arena. Niagara fell 6-1 to Bentley.
Game Recap
First Period
  • Bentley picked up where they left off on Friday as they scored 5:31 into the game to make it 1-0.
  • In the first period, the Falcons generated 14 shots but could only solve Niagara goalie Chad Veltri the one time. Niagara had just five shots in the first period.
  • Niagara killed off the lone Bentley power play in the first period while allowing just one shot.
Second Period
  • At the 7:51 mark of the middle frame, the Falcons made it a 2-0 game on the power play.
  • Niagara responded at the 14:06 mark of the period. Carter Randklev went down the left wing and used a wicked wrister to beat the netminder. Lars Rodne picked up hist fifth assist on the play while Josef Mysak picked up his eighth assist of the season.
  • Bentley took the two goal lead back at the 17:55 mark of the second period.
  • Niagara headed to the locker room trailing 3-1 after outshooting Bentley 11-7 in the second period.
Third Period
  • The Falcons made it a three goal game at the 6:06 mark of the third period.
  • At the 12:10 mark of the third, Bentley scored an empty net goal to make it 5-1. Bentley scored their sixth goal of the contest at the 17:23 mark of the frame.
  • Niagara once again outshot the Falcons 11-7 in the third period but could not beat the Bentley goalie.
Niagara Notes
  • Niagara blocked 15 shots on the night with 11 players blocking a shot including four who had multiple blocks.
  • The Purple Eagles went 1-5 on the power play with seven shots while Bentley converted once on six attempts.
  • Jason Pineo went 14-12 in the faceoff circle as he led the Purple Eagles with a 53.8 winning percentage.
  • Casey Carreau leads the Purple Eagles in points with 19 while Ryan Cox has a team high nine goals. With his goal tonight, Randklev is now second on the team in goals.

  • The Purple Eagles head on the road for the next two weekends as they go to Air Force next weekend before returning to Western New York to face Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius at the HarborCenter on Jan. 27 and 28.
