Colgate Tops NU Wednesday Night

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate Raiders defeated Niagara in three-straight sets (25-19, 25-12, 25-19) Wednesday night in midweek non-conference volleyball action.  

Match Recap:
First Set
• The Raiders took a 2-0 lead over NU before the Purple Eagles got on the board via a kill by Jenna Vogen
• Niagara would tie it at 3-3 on a service ace from Laryssa Imbuzeiro
• Later in the set, Niagara would draw within one, 13-14, with a kill from Kinga Wronska, but back-to-back points by the Raiders would force NU to take a timeout. 
• Following the timeout, Colgate would outscore NU 10-6 to win the set.  

Set 2
• An attack error would tie the game at 5-5 for Niagara. 
• Colgate would take the following three points and nine of the next 13 to force Niagara to call a timeout with the score 14-8. 
• The Raiders would continue their dominance in the set, taking a commanding 22-10 lead as Niagara would call timeout again. 
• Colgate would take a 2-0 match lead following a 25-12 win in set two. 

Set 3
• Vogen gave NU an early 2-1 set lead with her fifth kill of the match. 
• NU would trail 14-11 at the media timeout but roll off a 4-1 run to tie the game at 15 following the break. 
• With the score 19-16 in favor of the Raiders, Niagara would pull within one with back-to-back points, including a kill and service ace by Wronska.
• Colgate would outscore NU 6-1 to win the set and take the match.  

Niagara Notes
• Niagara drops to 1-5 all-time against Colgate. 
• Sophomore Jenna Vogen and junior Lexi Bapst led NU with five kills apiece, with Vogen posting a .250 hitting percentage. 
• Senior Taylor Allen posted a team-high .308 hitting percentage, her highest since posting a .381 against Penn.
• Senior Casey Brown recorded 25 assists, her fourth match with 20 or more assists. 
• Sophomore Bella Peroni collected 17 digs to match her season-high.

• The Purple and White will play its final two non-conference matches of the season this weekend at the UMBC Invite. Niagara will take on JMU on Saturday, Sep. 10, and UMBC on Sunday, Sep. 11.
