Bearcats Defeat the Purple Eagles in Tuesday Night Volleyball Match

VESTAL, NY – Binghamton defeated Niagara in three sets Tuesday night in non-conference action. The loss drops NU to 3-9 overall, while Binghamton improves 9-4.
 
Match Recap
First Set
• The Bearcats jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the first set, via a 5-0 run that ended on a Taylor Allen kill to make it 6-2.
• Binghamton's lead would grow to 10 points after a 5-1 run made the score 20-10.
• Niagara would take six of the next 10 points, before the Bearcats took the final point of the set to earn a 25-16 win.
 
Second Set
• The Purple and White would take a 6-4 lead after a kill and ace from freshman Liana Tolliver.
• Niagara would maintain a lead for the next 10 points before a Bearcat kill made it an 11-11 game.
• That was the first of three straight points for Binghamton, giving the Bearcats a 13-11 lead over NU.
• That lead would grow to 20-15 before Binghamton rallied for five straight to end the set.
 
Third Set
• Niagara would find themselves in a 13-1 in the decisive third set.
• Binghamton would get one point away from a sweep of NU, 24-10, but the Purple Eagles would rally for six-straight points to make it a 24-16 game.
• Following a Bearcat timeout, Binghamton clinched the match, 25-16.
 
Niagara Notes
• Freshman duo Liana Tolliver and Kinga Wronska led NU with seven kills apiece.
• Wronska, who was named MAAC Rookie of the Week also picked up seven digs.
Kylie Blessing picked up 13 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
• Senior Casey Brown added eight assists.
 
Up Next
• Niagara will take on Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday's contest with the Golden Griffins will be held at the Gallagher Center, followed by a trip to the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday.
