Dukes Sweep Purple Eagles

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Dukes swept Niagara, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18, Saturday afternoon in non-conference volleyball action in Baltimore. The Purple Eagles fall to 2-6 on the season, while JMU improves to 5-3 overall. 

Match Recap: 
First Set
• The first set went back-and-forth before JMU rallied for four-straight points to take an 18-13 lead and force NU to use one of its timeouts. 
• Following the timeout, JMU would take a 20-15 lead, growing to as much as 22-16. 
• The Dukes would take the first set, 25-18. 
• Niagara had seven kills in the set for a .057 hitting percentage.  

Set 2
• JMU had an early 6-4 lead in set two when Kinga Wronska put NU down by one. 
• After James Madison took the next point, Ashley Simpson would record a kill, followed by an attack error by the Dukes, tying the game at seven. 
• JMU would outscore NU 8-2 over the following 10 points, forcing Niagara to call a timeout. 
• Niagara would take two of three points following the timeout to pull within four, 15-11. 
• JMU would go up by eight, 20-12, forcing Niagara to use another timeout. 
Kylie Blessing would get the point for NU following the timeout, making the score 20-13 in favor of the Dukes. 
• With the Dukes needing one more point to take the set, Vogen would record her fourth kill of the match, but JMU would end up taking the set on the next point, 25-16.  

Set 3
• JMU would take a 10-4 lead in set three, as Niagara would call a timeout. 
• NU would take four of the following six points out of the timeout to pull back within four, 12-8. 
• James Madison's lead would swell to 21-13 before NU had to call its final timeout. 
• The Dukes would take the third set 25-14 to complete the sweep of the Purple Eagles. 

Niagara Notes
• Saturday marked the first-ever meeting between the Purple Eagles and Dukes. 
Liana Tolliver, Jenna Vogen, and Ashley Simpson led NU with five kills. Simpson had a team-best .179 hitting percentage. 
Kylie Blessing led NU with 10 assists, the third time this season that the freshman reached double-digit assists. 
Kinga Wronska led NU with eight digs, followed by Bella Peroni with seven. 
• Niagara has lost four-straight matches.
