Grufman and Cripps Lead NU to 1-0 Win over Navy

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Sophomore goalkeeper Felicia Grufman picked up her first clean sheet of the season, and junior Amanda Cripps found the back of the net for the first time as a Purple Eagle to lift Niagara to a 1-0 win over Navy Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. 

Game Recap
First Half
• Niagara had its only first-half shot on goal come early in the contest as Emma Bough put one toward the net, but the Navy goalie was there to make the stop. 
• Grufman made three saves in the first half, including one in traffic in the 39th minute that kept the Mids off the board. 

Second Half
Djeynaba Thiam got passed the back line of Navy and had just the keeper to beat in the 51st minute, but her attempt would go just wide of the net, keeping the game tied at 0-0.
• In the 65th minute of play, Emma Bough found Cripps, who would slot one in the bottom left side of the net to give Niagara a 1-0 lead. 
• Niagara nearly went up 2-0 in the 71st minute, but the Navy keeper stopped the shot from Ebba Noren.
• Cripps put another chance on net in the 76th minute, but the Navy keeper made a leaping stop. 
• Thiam almost gave NU a 2-0 lead with her chance in the 81st minute. 

Niagara Notes
• Sunday marked the second meeting all-time between the Purple Eagles and Mids. Niagara improves to 1-1 all-time against Navy with the win.
• Cripps' goal in the 65th minute was her first as a Purple Eagle.
• Bough's assist was her first of the season, and the junior has nine helpers since the start of 2021.  
• Grufman's five saves led to her third career clean sheet.

• Niagara will return to Niagara Field on Thursday night when it hosts Cornell for a non-conference tilt. The kickoff between the Purple Eagles and Big Red is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
