Men's Basketball Adds Kelly To Coaching Staff

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara men's basketball head coach Greg Paulus has announced the hiring of Tyler Kelly as an assistant coach, completing his coaching staff for the 2022-23 season.

"We are thrilled to add Tyler to our coaching staff," Paulus said. "He is highly regarded for his ability to connect, recruit, and develop student-athletes both on and off the court. His achievement of winning a national championship as a player at Florida Southern, along with his coaching experiences, will bring a tremendous perspective to our program."

Kelly joins the Purple Eagles from Division II Lincoln Memorial University (LMU), where he joined the staff as an assistant coach in May 2021. Kelly helped the Railsplitters to a 26-5 record in 2021-22. The team advanced to the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championships and to the second round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and four players earned SAC All-Conference honors.

"I'm excited and extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Paulus and the staff," said Kelly. "I'm eager to get to work and continue to build on the foundation this staff has laid for this program. I'm looking forward to serving and building relationships with the student-athletes and community around Niagara University."

Kelly began his coaching career in 2015, serving as an assistant coach at Florida Southern for the 2015-16 season. From 2016-19, Kelly was responsible for player management and program operations at University of Wisconsin - Green Bay.

From 2019-2021, Kelly served as the top assistant at Le Moyne. He oversaw player development and assisting with practice plans, scouting, recruiting and travel. During his time at Le Moyne, the Dolphins earned a Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference Southwest Division regular season title in 2019-20. The Dolphins were the No. 1 seed in the 2020 NE10 Tournament and Kelly also helped the team to its fourth straight Division II East Regional Championship berth.

Kelly was a four-year letterwinner at Florida Southern College, where he helped the team to a 2015 NCAA Division II national championship. While at Florida Southern, the Moccasins had four straight 20-win seasons and won a program record 36 games during their championship run in 2014-15. The team made four consecutive Division II Championship appearances, two Elite Eight appearances (2013, 2015), four SSC Tournament championships and three SSC regular season titles during Kelly's time there. Kelly finished his career tied second in program history in games played (131) and fourth in assists (498).

Kelly graduated from Florida Southern with a bachelor's degree in business administration and management in 2015.
