Purple Eagles Fall to Siena

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Niagara (9-7, 5-2 MAAC) was defeated by Siena (10-7, 6-2 MAAC) on the road Thursday afternoon in MAAC women's lacrosse action by the final score of 14-9.

Game Recap
First Quarter
• The Purple and White scored first as Rachel Crane beat the Siena goalkeeper for the score. 
• The Saints would score three times in a 4:58 span of the first to take a 3-1 lead over the Purple and White
• Niagara trimmed the Siena lead to 3-2 when Lois Garlow found the back of the net with 1:02 remaining in the opening quarter. 

Second Quarter
• The Purple Eagles and Saints would trade goals to start the second quarter and make the score 4-3 Siena. 
Jenna Brill scored Niagara's third goal at the 10:18 mark of the second. 
• The score would remain the same for the next 6:02 before Siena scored to take a two-goal advantage with 4:19 on the clock. 
• With less than a minute to go in the half, the Saints would double up Niagara and take a 6-3 lead into the break. 

Third Quarter
• Siena took a 7-3 lead over Niagara with a goal 5:23 start into the third. 
• The Purple and White would get the goal back 11 seconds later when Allison McCormick found the back of the net. 
• The Saints would score four unanswered goals by the time the quarter came to an end to make it a seven-goal game heading into the fourth. 

Fourth Quarter
• The Purple and White scored twice, both coming from Rachel Crane, to start the fourth and draw within five, 11-6. 
• The Saints added three more to make it a 14-6 contest with 9:43 remaining in the game. 
• Garlow scored on a free position putting NU down 14-7 with 8:07 to go. 
Rachel Crane and Lucy Rugaber scored back-to-back goals for Niagara in the contest's final moments to give the game its 14-9 final. 

Niagara Notes
Rachel Crane led Niagara with four goals, her seventh game with three or more tallies. 
• Garlow added two goals and now has 43 on the season. The junior also picked up the team's lone assist on the afternoon.
• Rugaber, McCormick, and Brill each found the back of the net once in the loss. 
Rachel Crane and Rugaber collected a team-best three ground balls, while Crane posted a season-high five caused turnovers. 
• Brill led the squad with five draw controls. 
• Niagara goalkeeper Michelle Messenger made seven saves on 21 shots faced.

• The Purple Eagles will host Manhattan for Senior Day on Sunday, April 24. The opening draw between Niagara and the Jaspers is set for noon, with senior day festivities beginning at approximately 11:40 a.m.
