NU Overcome By Bulls In Series Finale

TAMPA, Fla. – The Purple Eagles (2-18) fell to USF (17-7), 11-3, in their series finale against the Bulls on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • The Bulls scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over NU.
  • USF had a big fourth inning, getting five runs across to extend its lead, 6-0. A two-run homerun from the Bulls in the fifth frame put them ahead, 8-0.
  • In the top of the seventh, a double from Vincent Mauro scored Matt Ward to put the Purple Eagles on the board. An RBI single from Spencer Marcus sent Mauro home and left NU trailing by six, 8-2.
  • The Bulls, however, added one run in the seventh inning and two in the eighth to put their lead at nine, 11-2.
  • In the top of the ninth, Cole O'Connor singled to right field to score Marcus, but it was not enough for NU to overcome the Bulls as the Purple Eagles were defeated by USF, 11-3.

Eagle's Eye On
  • O'Connor led the Purple Eagles with two hits. Mauro, Marcus, Max Giordano and Cole Tucker each added one hit.
  • O'Connor, Mauro and Marcus each had one RBI.
  • Marcus Cashman (0-3) took the loss on the mound. He struck out two and allowed three earned runs on one hit in 3.1 innings pitched.
