NIagara Advances to MAAC Semifinals with Win over No. 5 Siena

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – With 7.7 seconds left on the clock, Niagara senior Ally Haar connected on a jumper to lift the Purple Eagles to a 60-59 win over No. 5 Siena in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Women's Basketball Tournament. 

The Purple and White were led by Angel Parker, who finished with 16 points, two rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Aaliyah Parker added 13 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Niagara ended the game shooting 35.5 percent from the floor. 

Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara found themselves down 8-5 at the game's first media timeout. 
Brooklyn Jones ended a 2-plus minute scoreless streak for NU to make it 8-7 in favor of Siena.
• The sophomore would give the Purple Eagles a 9-7 lead with a jumper 1:36 later. 
• Siena would respond with a 7-3 run to take a 15-12 lead over Niagara with 16 seconds left in the stanza. 
Angel Parker took the final shot of the first, a deep 3-pointer that tied the game at 15-all going into the second.   

Second Quarter
• Angel would connect on another 3-pointer to start the second and give NU a three-point lead, 18-15. 
Kyra Grimshaw would hit a 3-pointer of her own at the 6:44 mark to give NU a 23-19 advantage. 
• Siena would go on a 5-0 run to retake the lead, 24-23. 
• The lead would change hands on the following three possessions, giving Niagara a 27-26 lead. 
• The Purple Eagles took a 32-31 lead into the break thanks to a 7-3 run over the final 2:15 of the half. 

Third Quarter
• Niagara made it a 41-33 game after a 9-2 run to start the second half. Four different Purple Eagles scored during the run, including three from Angel. 
• With 5:15 played in the third, Niagara had a 43-35 lead over Siena, outscoring the No. 5 seeded Saints 11-4 before the media timeout. 
• By the 1:33 mark of the third, Siena had trimmed the Niagara advantage to 46-42. Grimshaw would make 1-of-2 at the line. 
• Siena would draw within three by the end of the quarter, 49-46.

Fourth Quarter
• Niagara would remain in front for the first 5:05 of the fourth, taking a four-point lead into the media timeout. 
• Siena took a 55-54 lead, forcing the Purple and White to call timeout with 4:15 remaining in the contest. 
• The score would remain the same for the next three minutes before Siena added two at the line to make it a 57-54 game. 
• Aaliyah would make two of her own at the line with 1:39 remaining to put Niagara down one, 57-56. 
• After an intentional foul on Siena, Niagara's Ally Haar put the Purple Eagles down one, 59-58, with a pair of free throws. 
• Following a turnover by the Saints, Haar would get the ball again with less than 10 seconds left, drive the lane, and hit the game-winning jump shot with 7.7 seconds remaining.  

Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White will make their first semifinals appearance in the MAAC Women's Basketball Tournament since 2013. 
• Niagara finished the contest with 23 forced turnovers, resulting in 20 points. 
• Despite being outrebounded, 40-32, Niagara recorded 14 second-chance points, compared to 11 for the Saints. 
• Niagara's bench added 14 points, with Grimshaw pacing the reserves with eight. 
• Mason finished with five boards, three of which came on the offensive end of the floor. 
• Haar and Aaliyah played a team-high 33 minutes, with the senior scoring eight points. 
• The game had 13 lead changes and three ties. Niagara played a total of 24:26 with the lead. 
• Niagara finished the game with 13 steals, improving its season total to 395.
