Niagara's Season Comes to an End with MAAC Semifinals Loss to Fairfield

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – After advancing to the MAAC Championship semifinals for the first time since 2013, the Niagara women's basketball team fell to the top-seeded Fairfield Stags Friday afternoon at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall by the final score of 75-38. 

Kyra Grimshaw led Niagara with nine points as the senior finished 3-for-9 from the field while snagging six rebounds. Ally Haar contributed eight-point, followed by five from Angel Parker

First Quarter
• The Purple Eagles and Stags traded 3-point baskets first, with each team finishing the first 10-minutes 3-for-6 from the field. 
• Fairfield would connect on back-to-back threes to end the quarter and take a 13-11 lead over Niagara. 
• The Purple and White were 4-for-11 from the field in the first. Three Purple Eagles recorded three points. 
• Niagara's last basket of the quarter came at the 3:15 mark. 

Second Quarter
• Niagara's scoreless streak continued well into the second quarter, allowing the Stags to go on a 10-run and take a 17-11 lead over NU by the media timeout (4:36).
• Out of the timeout, Fairfield built its lead to 22-11 by the 2:45 mark, forcing Niagara to call timeout. 
• Niagara finally got on the board in the second with a driving layup by Angel Parker, ending a 12:06 scoreless drought for NU and making the score 22-13. 
• Fairfield would connect on two 3-pointers to score 28-13 going into the break.  

Third Quarter
• Angel made it a 10-point game, 28-18, with her first 3-pointer of the contest at the 6:41 mark of the third. 
• By the media timeout, Fairfield would have a 33-18 lead over the Purple and White.
• At the 3:23 mark, Kyra Grimshaw makes both at the line, trimming Fairfield's lead to 35-20. 
• Fairfield would have a 47-20 lead going into the fourth as the Stags ended the quarter on a 12-0 run. 

Fourth Quarter
• Niagara scored a game-best 18 points in the fourth quarter as Grimshaw and Haar each tallied five in the frame. 
Arianna Johnson added three points in the quarter for Niagara, making a field goal along with a free throw to complete a 3-point play. 
• The game would end with the Stags in front, 75-36. 

Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White finish the 2021-22 season 15-15 overall, its first .500 or better winning percentage since finishing 14-12 in 2004-05. 
• Niagara finished Friday's game with a 25.0 percent mark from the field, 24.0 percent from 3-point land, and 53.3 percent from the line. 
• The Purple and White forced 11 Fairfield turnovers, resulting in 11 points for NU. 
• Niagara scored 10 points in the paint, eight on second-chance opportunities, and nine off the bench.
