Purple Eagles Dominate in Win Over Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Four Purple Eagles recorded double-figures as Niagara (8-12, 5-7 MAAC) went into Draddy Gymnasium and handed Manhattan (13-9, 8-5 MAAC) its first home loss of the season, 85-73. Angel Parker led the way for the Purple Eagles with 25 points, seven assists, three steals. 
 
Maddy Yelle scored 16 points and had a team-high six rebounds, while Aaliyah Parker and Ally Haar added 11 and 10, respectively.  
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara called a timeout 2:43 into the contest as the Jaspers jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Olivia Mason gave Niagara its first lead of the contest, 7-5, with a layup at the 5:38 mark of the first. 
• Niagara would use a 12-0 run over 3:06 of the first to take a 12-5 lead over Manhattan with 3:50 remaining in the opening stanza. 
• Manhattan would outscore the Purple and White, 9-7, in the final 3:08 of the first to draw within five, 19-14. 
• Niagara was 8-for-18 from the field in the first and scored nine points off seven Jasper turnovers.  
 
Second Quarter
• Niagara scored the first three points in the second, building its lead back to double-digits, 24-14. 
• At the 4:56 mark, the Niagara lead would be trimmed to five, 30-25. 
• Angel would connect on a corner 3-pointer while being fouled. She would make the ensuing free throw to give Niagara its largest lead of the first half, 39-27. 
• Niagara would take a 43-36 lead into the locker room after shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. 
 
Third Quarter
Ally Haar connected on her second triple of the game at the 7:36 mark of the third, giving Niagara a 47-36 lead over the Jaspers. 
• Haar would make it a 51-38 game less than two minutes later with another three-ball. 
Brooklyn Jones would make a driving layup with 4:52 on the clock, forcing Manhattan to take a timeout as the Purple and White started the quarter on a 10-4 run and took a 53-40 lead. 
• After Manhattan pulled with 54-48 with 1:53 left in the third, the Purple Eagles would score eight of the game's next ten points to take a 62-50 lead into the fourth. 
• Angel and Yelle made back-to-back 3-pointers to end the frame and put NU back up by double figures. 
 
Fourth Quarter
• A 3-pointer from Angel and a layup from Aaliyah gave NU its largest lead of the game, 69-52, with 6:33 to go. 
Lore Porter joined the 3-point party to give Niagara a 72-57 lead over the Jaspers with 4:50 left in the contest. 
• With 2:30 remaining in the game, Niagara had a 76-60 lead. 
• Manhattan would pull within 10, 76-66, with two made free throws at the 1:17 mark and again with 59 seconds left, 79-69.
• Niagara would sink six free throws in the final minute of action to seal the win. 
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara is now 35-31 against the Jaspers all-time and has won four of the last six meetings in Riverdale. 
• The Purple Eagles are now 8-2 when scoring 73 or more points. 
• Niagara also improves to 5-0 after dropping its previous two games. 
• Angel's 25 points are the most for her in league play this season. The junior has reached double-digits in each of the last six. After registering seven this afternoon, she has also recorded 13 games with five or more assists. 
• Aaliyah reached double figures for the 11th time this season and the sixth time in the last seven games. 
• Yelle took a season-high 14 shots, making seven. The senior has made 50.0 percent or more of her field goal attempts on 10 different occasions this season. 
• Haar connected on half of her 3-point shots Saturday afternoon. The senior now has a team-best 32 from beyond the arc. 
Saige Glover played a season-high 12 minutes, scoring four points and grabbing three boards. 
• Niagara matched its season-high in 3-pointers made with 11, which it set on Thursday night at Fairfield. 
• The Purple Eagles shot 50.8 percent from the field, its best mark of the season. 
• Niagara also recorded its third straight game, shooting over 47.0 percent from the field. 
• Niagara had 31 points off 29 Manhattan turnovers and 38 points in the paint.

• Niagara concludes its three-game road trip at Siena on Monday night. The Purple Eagles and Saints game will tip-off at 7 p.m. from the UHY Center.
