Army Downs the Purple Eagles, 15-9

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Niagara (1-2) dropped its midweek contest with Army (2-2) by the final score of 15-9 Thursday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action from Mitchie Stadium at West Point Academy.

Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from Lois Garlow 4:22 into the contest.
• The Cadets would score twice in 40 seconds to take a 3-1 lead over NU.
• Back-to-back goals for the Purple and White tied the game at three. The first goal was scored by Jaclyn Crane on a free-position, followed by a goal from Lucy Rugaber, who Rachel Crane set up.
• Army would have a 5-3 lead over NU by the time the first quarter came to a close.

Second Quarter
• Army would make it three-unanswered goals to start the second, doubling up the Purple Eagles, 6-3.
• Niagara would get one back thanks to Garlow's free-position goal at the 10:43 mark of the stanza.
• Another 3-0 run by Army made the score 9-4.
Brenna Duffy would find Andra Savage for Niagara's fifth goal of the contest, putting NU down 9-5 moments before the end of the half.

Third Quarter
• Niagara would make it a three-goal game to start the second half when R. Crane found the back of the net 1:21 into the third.
• Less than three minutes later, the Army lead would be trimmed to two, 9-7, as Allison McCormick beat the Cadet netminder for the tally.
• Army would score two to regain its four-goal advantage over Niagara.
• A woman-up opportunity would lead to a Jenna Brill goal, her first goal of the season. The tally made the score 11-8 in favor of Army.
• The Purple Eagles and Cadets would trade goals in the final 3:38 of play, giving Army the 13-9 lead heading into the game's final 15 minutes of action.

Fourth Quarter
• Army added two goals in the final period of play to give the game its 15-9 final.
• Niagara took seven shots in the fourth, with four going on target.

Niagara Notes
• Thursday was the first-ever meeting between Army and Niagara.
• Garlow and R. Crane scored twice and are now tied for the team lead in goals with four.
• Duffy finished the contest with two helpers, followed by Garlow and R. Crane with one apiece.
Jess Foley and TaNia Cunningham led NU with three ground balls each.
• R. Crane finished the game with three caused turnovers.
Maren Geiger and Jordan Roy would split time in goal for NU. The senior would finish with eight saves and the sophomore stopped one of nine shots faced. 
Lexi Braniecki recorded a team-best three draw controls.
• Savage's goal in the second was her first as a Purple Eagle.

• The Purple and White recorded season-highs in assists (4), shots on goal (21), saves (9), ground balls (18), and clears (11).
