Parker Scores 30 in Purple Eagles Loss to Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Despite a career-high 30 points from junior Angel Parker, Niagara (12-13, 9-8 MAAC) fell to Quinnipiac (16-9, 11-5 MAAC) by the final score of 76-57 in MAAC women's basketball action from the People's United Center in Hamden, Conn Saturday afternoon. 
 
Game Recap 
First Quarter
• After Quinnipiac scored the first two points of the game, Niagara scored six-straight, four of which came off Quinnipiac turnovers. 
• Halfway through the first quarter, Niagara had an 11-8 lead over Quinnipiac, with all 11 points coming via the Parker sisters. 
• Angel recorded her 10th point of the contest less than seven minutes in with a pull-up jumper, giving NU a 15-12 lead.
• The junior would connect on a 3-pointer with 1:54 left in the quarter, giving the Purple Eagles a seven-point advantage, 20-13. 
• Angel finished the quarter 6-for-7 from the floor with 13 points to help NU take a 22-13 lead into the second quarter. 
Aaliyah Parker would score the other nine points for Niagara in the quarter.  

Second Quarter
• Niagara would take a 25-13 lead after another Angel 3-pointer, her second of the half. 
• Quinnipiac would knock down back-to-back 3-pointer to draw within six, 25-19, with 6:39 remaining in the half. 
Olivia Mason scored to end the Purple Eagles scoreless streak and give the Purple Eagles a 27-19 lead with 3:49 left in the first half. 
Ally Haar would connect on a jumper to give Niagara a 10-point lead, 29-19, its largest since being up by 12 at the start of the frame. 
• Quinnipiac would make it a five-point game with 15 seconds left, but NU would make it six with a made free-throw in the final seconds to make the halftime score, 33-27.

Third Quarter
• Niagara's lead was trimmed to four, 35-31, 2:30 into the second half. 
• By the 5:43 mark of the third, Quinnipiac had taken a 38-37 lead. The Bobcats outscored Niagara 11-4 through the first four and change of the period.
• Niagara would be outscored by Quinnipiac 14-5 over the next 4:15, giving Quinnipiac a 50-42 lead. 
• The final 1:49 of the quarter saw NU pull within seven. However, the Bobcats would hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to go into the fourth up ten, 57-47.

Fourth Quarter
• By the 5:21 mark of the fourth, Niagara was down six, 61-55 after QU outscored Niagara 8-4 in the first 4:36 of the frame. 
• Over the next four-and-a-half minutes, Quinnipiac would score 14-unanswered to take a 75-55 lead over NU. 
• The game would close with Niagara scoring twice at the line to give the game its 76-57 final.  
• Niagara scored 10 points in the quarter and a total of 24 in the second half against Quinnipiac. 

Niagara Notes
• Niagara's falls to 1-18 all-time against the Bobcats. 
• Angel and Aaliyah combined to score the first 25 points of the contest for Niagara. 
• Angel recorded her eighth game of the season with 20 or more points en route to becoming the first Purple Eagle to reach 30 points since former Purple Eagle Jai Moore scored 32 against Monmouth in 2020. 
• The junior led the team in assists (2), steals (4), and blocks (2) Saturday afternoon.
• Aaliyah was one rebound shy of a double-double as the freshman finished with 13 points and nine boards. 
• Glover scored a career-high six points, surpassing her previous career-best of five set earlier this season.
• Niagara scored 20 points off 21 Quinnipiac turnovers while also collecting 18 fast break points and 28 in the paint.  
• The two teams finished with 43 rebounds apiece to tie the rebound battle. 
 
Up Next
• Niagara will be in Jersey City on Feb. 24 to conclude its season series with Saint Peter's at Run-Baby-Run Arena. Tip-off between the Peacocks and Purple Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
