Strong Fourth Quarter Leads to Purple Eagles Win Over Monmouth

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (11-12, 8-7 MAAC) ended the game with a 7-0 run and defeated Monmouth (13-9, 8-4 MAAC) 80-74 for its fourth-straight win in MAAC women's basketball action Saturday afternoon from the Gallagher Center.

Angel Parker finished with 23 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Aaliyah Parker recorded her second-straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara tied the game at seven with two free throws by Maddy Yelle.
• The Purple Eagles had five straight defensive stops and took a five-point lead after a Brooklyn Jones 3-pointer with 4:24 on the clock.
Maddy Yelle scored five of Niagara's first 12 points, all of which came at the charity stripe.
• Niagara's lead would grow to 14-7 thanks to a 10-run before Monmouth made a pair of free throws to make the score 14-9.
• Monmouth pulled within one, 14-13, with less than 1:30 left, but Niagara's Aaliyah Parker would respond with a bucket on the other end, giving Niagara a 16-13 lead.

Second Quarter
Kyra Grimshaw tied the game at 19 with a deep 3-pointer, her first of the game.
• Monmouth called time with 6:39 on the clock and the score in its favor, 22-21.
Lore Porter would make a corner 3-pointer to put Niagara down 25-24 with 5:40 remaining in the half.
• Monmouth's lead would grow to 32-26 before a made jump shot from Saige Glover made it a 32-28 game.
Angel Parker would take the final shot of the half, but it would fall short, and the Hawks would go into the locker room with a 39-30.

Third Quarter
• Niagara scored the third's first points, a 3-pointer from Ally Haar.
• Haar would make another 3-pointe a couple of possessions later to make it a 41-36 game.
• Aaliyah put Niagara down three, 45-42, with a layup at the 5:43 mark.
• At the media timeout, Niagara would be down four, 46-42.
• Haar would find Mason down low for a layup helping Niagara pull within two, 46-44 with 4:22 on the clock.
• A second-chance layup from Aaliyah made it a 54-51 Monmouth lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter 
• Mason put the Purple and White down one to start the fourth with a layup, her third field goal of the afternoon.
• Aaliyah would make a layup in traffic and go to the line for one, which she would sink, making the score 65-61 with just under six to go.
• Haar tied the game at 65 with a free throw at the 4:05 mark. However, the game wouldn't remain tied long as Monmouth would go to the line and make it a 66-65 game.
• Angel responded with a layup to give NU its first lead since the first quarter, 67-66.
• After two made free-throws by Monmouth, the junior would hit a 3-pointer on the to give Niagara a 70-69 lead.
• Her sister Aaliyah gave NU a 71-69 lead after going 1-for-2 at the line.
• With two minutes to go, Niagara would go up by four, 73-69, thanks to a layup from Mason.
• The two teams would trade the lead in the final two minutes, and Niagara would have a 75-74 lead with 28.4 to go.
• Monmouth called a timeout after Parker went 1-for-2, giving Niagara a 76-74 lead.
• Angel sealed the win with four free throws in the final 20 seconds of action.  

Niagara Notes
• All nine Purple Eagles found their way into the scoring column, while three reached double-digits.
• Aaliyah recorded her second-straight double-double and fourth of the season.
• Niagara is now 10-2 when scoring 73 or more points and improving to 7-4 at home.
• Haar finished the game with 10 points, going 3-for-8 from the field and 2-for-5 from 3-point land.
• Niagara finished the game with 13 fast break points.
• The Purple Eagles grabbed 35 rebounds, led by Aaliyah's 10 and six from Angel.
• Mason ended the game with eight points and five boards.
• Seven of Niagara's 13 assists came from Angel.
