Purple Eagles Soar Past Red Foxes

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Six Purple Eagles reached double-digit scoring numbers as the Purple and White soared past Marist 85-67 in MAAC women's basketball action Thursday night from the Gallagher Center.

Niagara improves to 10-12 overall and 7-7 in league play while Marist falls to 6-15 overall and 4-9 in conference action Angel Parker led all scorers with 19 points while recording eight assists and six rebounds. Aaliyah Parker finished with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 boards. Lore Porter and Kyra Grimshaw finished with 12 points off the bench, followed by Ally Haar and Olivia Mason with 11 and 10, respectively. 

Game Recap 
First Quarter
• Niagara found themselves down 9-7 with 5:13 on the clock, but Kyra Grimshaw would connect on her first 3-pointer of the quarter to give NU a 10-9 lead and bring us into the media timeout. 
• From there, the Purple Eagles would go on a 10-2 run to end the quarter and take a 17-11 lead over visiting Marist. 
• Grimshaw would finish the quarter 2-for-3 from the deep for a team-high six points. 
• The Purple and White went 7-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-9 from 3-point range. 

Second Quarter
Lore Porter would connect on back-to-back 3-pointers to give Niagara a 23-11 lead over Marist and force the Red Foxes to call timeout with 8:31 on the clock. 
• Porter would connect on her third 3-pointer in a row at the 7:45 mark, making the score 26-13 in favor of the Purple and White. 
• Niagara would hold Marist scoreless from 5:34 to 1:12, building its lead to 41-19 before Marist scored to pull within 20, 41-21. 
• The Purple Eagles would end the frame on a 5-1 spurt, giving themselves a 46-22 lead at the break. 
• At the end of the first half, Niagara made eight first-half 3-pointers and finished the first 20-minutes shooting 52.7 percent from the field. 

Third Quarter
• Niagara would score eight of the thirds first 10 points, four via Aaliyah Parker to take a 54-24 advantage. 
• A short 5-0 run by the Red Foxes made it a 56-31 game before Grimshaw ended the Marist run with a second-chance layup. 
• Marist would outscore the Purple Eagles 10-8 over the last 4:33, making it a 20-point game heading into the fourth quarter. 
• Niagara and Marist tied in the quarter as each team 

Fourth Quarter
• Marist would go on another 5-0 run early in the fourth, trimming the Niagara lead to 19 points, 71-53, and forcing Niagara to call timeout. 
• Haar hit on Niagara's 11th 3-pointer of the game with 3:45 on the clock, bringing the lead to 79-56. 
• The Purple Eagles wouldn't let the Red Foxes get any closer than 14 points in the final three minutes of action despite Marist outscoring the Purple and White 11-9 to bring us to our final score of 85-67.

Niagara Notes
• Thursday marked Niagara's first win over Marist at home since Jan. 31, 2010. 
• The Purple Eagles improve to 9-2 when scoring more than 73 points.
• Niagara is now 6-4 at the Gallagher Center this season. 
• Niagara has now won three-straight games for the first time since 2019-20. 
• Aaliyah collected her third double-double of the season. 
• Angel matched her season-high with eight assists, and the junior now has 14 games with five or more helpers. 
• The older Parker sister also recorded double-digit points for the eighth game in a row after getting blanked at Rider on Jan. 18.
• The Purple and White outrebounded the Red Foxes 44-32. 
• Niagara finished with 33 bench points, 38 in the paint, 16 off turnovers, and 14 on second-chance opportunities. 
• The Purple Eagles finished with a season-high 12 3-pointers, and 34 made field goals.
Saige Glover grabbed nine rebounds off the bench, followed by six from Angel and Mason.
