Purple Eagles Fall to Quinnipiac in MAAC Title Match

HAMDEN, CONN. The Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium in the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship game.
 
First Half
• Niagara nearly took an early 1-0 lead over the Bobcats when Annie Ibey rifled one toward the near post, but her shot would end up connecting with the post and clearing out of the box.
Agnes Stenlund would make her first save of the game in the fifth minute of action, stopping a shot from MAAC Golden Boot recipient, Rebecca Cooke.
• Moments later Emily Hähnel had a shot blocked, leading to a opportunity for Emma Davies whose shot found the hands of the Quinnipiac keeper, Sohia Lospinoso.
• In the 17th minute, Niagara would surrender an own goal to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead over the Purple and White.
• DiPietro would try and get the equalizer for the Purple Eagles in the 34th minute, but her shot was stopped by Lospinoso.
 
Second Half
Emma Bough would have a shot blocked early in the second half as the Quinnipiac remained ahead, 1-0.
• The Bobcats would extend their lead to two goals with a tally from Cooke and another from Courtney Chochol, in the 59th and 67th minute, respectively.
• The Bobcats would add a fourth, again from Cooke, in the 79th minute of action to take a 4-0 lead over NU.
• Stenlund would make a trio of saves in attempt to keep Niagara in the game.
 
Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White fall to 1-4 all-time in the MAAC Championship game.
• Niagara ends the 2022 season 11-8-1 overall.
Ida Miceli, Claudia Cuicani and Emma Davies were named to the MAAC Championship Team.
