Parker Sisters Combine For 43 Points As Niagara Falls To Colgate in Overtime

Hamilton, N.Y.—The Niagara Women's Basketball team traveled to Central New York to take on the Colgate Raiders of the Patriot League. The Purple Eagles fell in overtime after falling behind by eight in the first quarter.
Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Colgate opened the scoring in the game but Niagara responded with a bucket of their own shorty after to tie the ball game.
  • Five minutes into the game, Niagara trailed by five as Colgate led 10-5. The Raiders continued to extend their lead.
  • The Purple Eagles ended the opening quarter down by eight despite having more offensive rebounds than the Raiders.
  • In the opening quarter, the Parker sister's accounted for all ten points as Aaliyah Parker had seven points while Angel Parker had three for the Purple Eagles.
Second Quarter
  • Niagara came out of the short break and dominated in the second quarter by outscoring the Raiders 19-9.
  • Aaliyah opened the scoring for the Purple Eagles in the second for her first two points of the second quarter.
  • Niagara shot 47.4% in the second quarter as Jade Rutledge had seven points in the period to lead Niagara.
  • Aaliyah, Angel, and Sydney Faulcon each had four points in the quarter as the Niagara defense forced nine turnovers and had four steals.
  • At halftime Niagara led 29-27, it was their first halftime lead of the season.
Third Quarter
  • The third quarter was full of back and forth play from the two teams and they jockeyed for the lead. There were three lead changes in the frame while the game was tied three times.
  • Despite the back and forth play, Niagara held the lead for over seven minutes of the ten minute quarter.
  • Angel led all scorers in the frame as she had seven points. Aaliyah and Maddy Yelle each added two points while Rutledge added one point.
  • Niagara held the biggest lead of the quarter as they led by six at the eight minute mark, after the third quarter the teams were tied at 41.
Fourth Quarter
  • The fourth was full of turnovers with the two teams combined for 23 points off turnovers, Niagara had 12.
  • Niagara forced seven steals in the fourth while Aaliyah had five of them.
  • The Purple Eagles did not lead in the fourth quarter but tied the game with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. Niagara forced a Colgate miss with three seconds left, Angel had a chance for a long three as time expired but the ball rattled off the rim.
  • Yelle and Aaliyah both had points in the fourth as five different Purple Eagles scored.
Overtime
  • Colgate took and early three point lead in overtime but Niagara responded and led by two just under two minutes into the extra period.
  • After that, Colgate went on run and did not allow another Niagara point.
  • Aaliyah had three points in overtime while Angel had two.
Niagara Notes
  • Niagara had a season high 16 steals in the game with Aaliyah leading the team with seven.
  • Aaliyah led all scorers with 23 points as she notched her second consecutive double double as she grabbed a game high 14 board.
  • Angel scored 21 points and is now averaging 19.3 points per game which is second in the MAAC. She also hit three threes against Colgate, she is tied for third in the MAAC in threes made.
  • It was the first time that Niagara has gone to overtime since they faced Iona at home on March 3rd last season.
  • Niagara had two 20+ point scores for the first time since the Parkers did it against Canisius on Feb. 26, 2022.

  • Niagara returns home on Saturday as they host the Cleveland State Vikings for their fourth of nine non-conference games this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 PM, earlier this week Niagara announced that they are teaming up with Niagara Falls Heart, Love, and Soul for a food drive. If any fan brings and acceptable item, they will receive a ticket for a future game.
