Purple Eagles Fall To Northwestern on the Road

Evanston, IL—The Niagara Women's Basketball team got back on the court and kicked off their week long road trip with a loss to B1G opponent Northwestern.
Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Aaliyah Parker opened the Purple Eagles after Northwestern jumped out to an early 4-0 lead.
  • Niagara generated just seven points in the opening quarter as Aaliyah had five of the seven points.
  • Both Parker and Sydney Faulcon had three rebounds in the first quarter while the Purple Eagles trailed 20-7 after the opening 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
  • In the second quarter the Niagara offense could not get the wheels turning against the Wildcats as they were outscored 18-19 and went to half down 38-16.
  • Aaliyah led the team with eight points while Angel Parker, Maddy Yelle, Ary Hicks, and Sydney Faulcon each had two points.
  • Niagara had eight steals in the opening half while forcing 13 Northwestern turnovers.
Third Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles came out of the locker room and still could not find a rhythm on offense as they scored 14 points in the frame. Northwestern scored 27 in the third to build on their lead.
  • Nickelle O'Neil notched her first points as a Purple Eagle as she hit a three and scored on a steal on back-to-back plays.
  • O'Neil and Aaliyah led the team with five points in the third quarter. Faulcon was the other Purple Eagle to score as she had four in the period.
Fourth Quarter
  • The fourth saw a lot of the minutes being spread around with Yelle playing almost the whole quarter with over nine minutes on the court.
  • O'Neil, Yelle, and Lexie Roe each had two points in the frame while Jade Rutledge and Aaliyah each had a point.
  • Niagara held Northwestern to 11 points in the fourth while having seven steals and forcing 10 turnovers.
Niagara Notes
  • Aaliyah led the team with 14 points while coming up two rebounds short of her third straight double-double. She added a team high five steals as well.
  • All ten dressed Purple Eagles saw time on the floor with nine of the ten playing over 15 minutes for Niagara.
  • Niagara forced 17 steals from the Wildcats and still have a turnover margin for six which is still the best in the MAAC.
  • Aaliyah still leads the MAAC in scoring by averaging 17.3 points per game.

  • Niagara heads to the west coast to play in the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic hosted by St. Mary's College of California. The Purple Eagles play the hosts on Friday before taking on Maine on Saturday.
