Niagara and The Mount Play to 2-2 Draw

EMMITSBURG, MD – Niagara and Mount St. Mary's played to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  The Purple and White are now 3-6-2 overall and 2-0-1 in MAAC play while the Mount moves to  6-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference action.
 
 Game Recap
 First Half
• The reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, Gabriel Mikina gave Niagara an early 1-0 lead over the Mount after scoring on off a rebound from the right side. Nuukele Gboe was awarded the assist on the play.
• In the 25th minute of play, Mount St. Mary's would tie the score at 1-1 following a score off the right foot of Ethan Glasser.
• Niagara's second goal was scored by Rodrigo Almeida in the 40th minute of action. Almeida headed the cross from Alberto Sanchez Cervera into the back of the net to give Niagara a 2-1 lead before the break.
 
 Second Half
•  the Mount would score the equalizer in the 71st minute of play, this one off the foot of Jesus Salazar. The goal was assisted by Erick Villatoro and Kofi Amoah.
Federico Cugge nearly gave Niagara a 3-2 lead in the 81st minute of action but his attempt went off the right woodwork, keeping the score tied.
 
 Niagara Notes
• Saturday marked the first meeting all-time between NU and the Mount. 
• Niagara took a total of 18 shots in the contest, with eight landing on target.
• Almeida's goal in the first half was his team-leading fifth of the season, while Mikina recorded his third goal of the season with his tally.
• Senior goaltender Josh Savoni made one save in the contest as the Mount registed nine shots, three of which were on goal.
• Both teams recorded five corners in the contest.  
 
 Up Next
 • Niagara returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it travels to Loudonville, N.Y., for a battle with Siena. Kickoff between the Purple Eagles and Siants is set for 2 p.m.
