Volleyball Can't Build Momentum as they Fall to Quinnipiac

Hamden, Conn.—Niagara Volleyball (6-16, 4-8 MAAC) fell on Sunday to Quinnipiac in three sets to close out the weekend on the road.
Game Recap
First Set
  • The Bobcats came out of the gate quick as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first five points.
  • Niagara answered the run from Quinnipiac with a run of their own to tie the opening set at five, the two teams then traded points again until Niagara took a 8-7 lead.
  • The Purple Eagle lead grew to 12-9 but the Bobcats responded with four points to take the 13-12 lead.
  • After the teams traded points and mini runs they teams were tied at 19. Niagara took the 20-19 lead but Quinnipiac took five of the last seven points to take the first set.
Second Set
  • In the second set the Purple Eagles jumped out to a 5-2 lead as three different Purple Eagles had kills to open the set.
  • After Niagara jumped out to an early lead, the Bobcats went on a run in which they scored 19 of the next 24 points to take a 21-11 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Liana Tolliver had the final two points for Niagara as they fell 25-12.
Third Set
  • Determined to make a comeback the Purple Eagles took a 4-3 lead to start the third set.
  • After the first 20 points of the set the teams were tied with neither team having a lead more than two to open the set.
  • The Bobcats went on another run in the middle of the set where they took 10 of 13 points to build a 20-13 lead.
  • The two teams traded the last 10 points but Quinnipiac hit 25 before the Purple Eagles could build any momentum.
Niagara Notes
  • Niagara and Quinnipiac split the season series as both teams defended their home court, Niagara took three of four sets against the Bobcats on Sept. 17 to notch their first MAAC win of the season.
  • Imbuzeiro and Kelly McArthur both had five kills which led the Purple Eagles while nine total players had kills in the match.
  • Kylie Blessing handed out 11 assists to lead the team while Casey Brown was right behind her with 10 assists.
  • Jenna Vogen dug out 11 balls on the day which was the most of the team, it is the fourth time this season that she had 11 digs in a match.

The Purple Eagles return home to face Iona and Manhattan for their third to last weekend of the regular season.
