RIVERDALE, NY – The Niagara women's volleyball program improved to 2-3 in MAAC play and 4-11 overall with a sweep (25-10, 25-20, 25-19) of Manhattan Saturday afternoon on the road.
Match Recap
First Set
• Niagara and Manhattan would split the first nine points of the opening set, with the Purple Eagles taking a slight 5-4 edge.
• The Purple and White would score five-straight points to take a 10-4 lead over the Jaspers.
• During the run,
Jenna Vogen and
Lexi Bapst recorded kills and
Kinga Wronska had two service aces.
• After Manhattan made it 10-5, the Purple Eagles again rolled off five-straight points. This time Bapst and
Kylie Blessing recorded kills for NU.
• The Jaspers would make it a 19-10 game later on in the set, before the Purple and White scored the final six points to earn the 25-10 set win.
• The final 6-0 run by NU was highlighted by a Vogen kill and a service ace from Blessing.
Second Set
• The first eight points of the second set were traded back and forth between Manhattan and Niagara, before the Purple Eagles took back-to-back points to take a 6-4 lead.
• That 6-4 lead would grow to 10-5 after a service ace from
Laryssa Imbuzeiro.
• Niagara would extend its lead to seven, 17-10, later on in the set with kills from Wronska, Bapst,
Kelly McArthur, and
Taylor Allen.
• Manhattan would take seven of the next nine points to pull within two, 19-17.
• That was as close as NU would let the Jaspers get as the Purple Eagles went on to take the set, 25-20.
• Imbuzeiro,
Katie Jacobs, McArthur, and Allen each accounted for points to help Niagara take a 2-0 set lead over the home team.
Third Set
• The Jaspers took a 3-0 lead to start the third set, before Vogen recorded a kill to get Niagara on the board.
• Niagara would tie the game at 4-4 following kills from Wronska and Imbuzeiro.
• The Purple Eagles took a 10-6 lead following a 6-2 run that saw an ace from Allen, and two kills from Imbuzeiro.
• The lead would grow to 18-10 later on in the set as
Megan Bruno recorded her second kill of the match.
• Manhattan would make things interesting once Niagara got to match point 24-16, by taking three-straight points to make it 24-19.
• Allen would put a stop to the Jasper run with a kill, sealing the sweep for Niagara.
Niagara Notes
• Of Niagara's four wins on the season, this is the second one to come in three sets.
• A total of 11 Purple Eagles recorded a kill in the sweep, led by Vogen's eight.
• Wronska, Allena dn McArthur followed with six kills apiece, while Imbuzeiro added five.
• A trio of Purple Eagles recorded multiple aces, including Allen, Wronska and Blessing.
• Wronska and
Bella Peroni added a team-high 13 digs.

Casey Brown led NU with 20 assists, her sixth 20-plus assists performance this season.
• Blessing finished with 15 assists, one shy of her season-high.
