Niagara Tames the Tigers Friday Night in Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY – Niagara (7-4-2, 6-7-2-2 AHA) dominated Friday night's contest against RIT (10-10-2, 6-6-2-2 AHA), coasting to a 5-3 win over its rival in Atlantic Hockey action from Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, NY.  

Jake Sibell earned his first collegiate win between the pipes, and Lars Rodne scored twice to pace the Purple and White. 

Game Recap
First Period
Lars Rodne scored the game's opening marker at the 9:41 mark of the first period for his third goal of the season. Shane Ott and Christian Gorsack put the play in motion to set Rodne up in front. 
• The Purple Eagles would outshoot the Tigers 20-3 in the opening period – the most shots allowed by RIT in a single period this season. 
Jake Sibell stopped all three shots he saw in the first. 

Second Period
Carter Randklev made it a 2-0 game six minutes into the second period with his first goal of the year. Ryan Naumovski would get credit for the assist on the play. 
• RIT would get one back with its first goal of the game two minutes later. 
• Harpur would score his first of the season to put NU back up by two goals at the midway point of the second. Brandon Stanley and Walker Sommer helped the captain get his first tally. 
• Rodne scored his second goal of the contest with five minutes remaining in the middle period. Ott and Josef Mysak found their teammate for the game's fourth goal.
• At the end of two, Sibell had stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced. 

Third Period
• RIT opened the third on the power play after NU was called for interference with 24 seconds remaining in the second. 
• Niagara would kill the Tiger power play and maintain its 4-1 lead.
• The Purple Eagles would kill their second power play of the period after a tripping call. 
Jordan Wishman gave Niagara a 5-1 lead with the first goal of his career. Wishman shot the puck from just left of the circle and found the back of the net. 
• The Tigers scored twice in the final minute to make it a 5-3 game. 

Niagara Notes
• Harpur surpassed Kevin Ryan '14 for the program's top spot in games played with his 148th career game tonight. 
• Rodne became the fourth Purple Eagle this season to register a two-goal game, joining Sommer (11/19/21), Albin Nilsson (11/5/21), and Ryan Cox (10/29/21).
• Three Purple Eagles found the back of the net for the first time this season, with the senior Wishman scoring the first goal of his career. 
• Sommer, Cox, and Stanley recorded two assists on the night.
• The Purple Eagles matched their season-high with five goals and are now 2-0 when scoring a handful.
• Sibell finished with 28 saves on 31 shots faced.
