Niagara Defeated By UNLV And Bucknell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles(2-6) fell to UNLV, 3-0, and Bucknell, 3-2, on Friday.

Match 1 Recap
First Set
  • The Rebels went on a 5-0 run to open the set to take an early lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • A kill from Jaycie Roberts kept NU within five points of UNLV, 9-4. The Rebels, however, extended their lead to eight points, 12-4.
  • Trailing by nine, 16-7, a kill from Roberts halved the Rebels' score, 16-8. A kill from Jenna Vogen kept the Purple Eagles within eight points, 19-11.
  • Cassie Seminoff recorded a kill to keep Niagara down by just eight points, 20-12, but the Rebels went on a 5-1 in the remainder of the set to win set one, 25-13.
Second Set
  • Kills from Seminoff and Mary Redl tied the score early on 3-3.
  • The Rebels got ahead, 6-3, but Lexi Bapst and Laryssa Imbuzeiro each had a kill to put NU behind by just one point, 6-5.
  • Down by four, 11-7, a kill from Redl and an ace from Sammie Sabra cut the Rebel lead to two, 11-9.
  • UNLV took a seven-point lead over the Purple Eagles, 17-10, but a kill from Imbuzeiro and an ace from Casey Brown put Niagara within five points of the lead, 12-17.
  • The Rebels, however, did not allow the Purple Eagles another point and won set two, 25-12.
Third Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Rebels traded points to open the third set and NU trailed by just one, 7-6, after a kill from Sabra.
  • Kills from Kelly McArthur and Redl kept NU down by just one point, 9-8.
  • The Rebels went on an 8-1 run to extend their lead over the Purple Eagles, 17-9, but back-to-back kills from Roberts brought Niagara back within six, 17-11.
  • Taylor Allen and Sabra scored the final two points of the set for NU.
 
Eagle's Eye On
  • Roberts had a team-high five kills. Redl added four kills and Seminoff had three.
  • Brown had a team-best seven digs. Amanda Darling and Seminoff each had four digs.
  • Brown led the team in assists with eight. Jessica Streuer added seven assists for the Purple Eagles.
 
Match 2 Recap
First Set
  • The Bison went on a 16-4 run in the first set against the Purple Eagles.
  • The Purple Eagles scored six straight points, including kills from Allen and Jenna Vogen, and a block by Allen and Vogen, to come within six points of the Bison, 16-10.
  • A kill from Roberts kept NU within six, 18-12.
  • The Bison extended their lead, 22-13, but Niagara earned four points to trail Bucknell by just five, 22-17.
  • The Bison, however, allowed NU just one more point and won the first set, 25-18.
Second Set
  • Bucknell scored four straight points to open the set, but Niagara answered with three straight, including kills from Allen and Redl, to trail by just one, 4-3.
  • Down by two, 5-3, NU went on another 3-0 run, capped by a kill from Roberts and an ace from Bella Peroni, to come back within one point of the lead, 7-6.
  • An ace from Roberts, a kill from Lexi Bapst and two Bucknell errors put Niagara in the lead, 11-9.
  • The Bison got back ahead, 12-11, but another kill from Bapst tied things up, 12-12.
  • Tied 14-14, a kill from Roberts started a 3-0 run that put the Purple Eagles back in the lead, 17-14.
  • Leading by two, 20-18, kills from Bapst and Allen extended Niagara's lead, 22-18.
  • The Bison scored three straight points to come within one point of the NU lead, 22-21, but the Purple Eagles scored three more points, including two more kills from Allen and one from Redl, to win the second set, 25-23.
Third Set
  • The Purple Eagles went on an 8-0 run to open the third set. Bapst added three more kills, while Allen and Streuer each had one.
  • Kills from Redl and Allen and an ace from Darling gave Niagara a nine-point lead over the Bison, 11-2.
  • Leading by five, 16-11, the Bison scored two points to cut NU's lead to three, 16-13, but two kills from Roberts and a Bucknell attacking error left Niagara leading by six, 19-13.
  • The Purple Eagles remained in the lead, with Roberts and Bapst each adding two more kills to help NU to a 25-21 set win.
Fourth Set
  • The Bison took a 7-3 lead over NU, but kills from Roberts and Bapst left the Purple Eagles trailing by just two points, 7-5.
  • Down by four, 12-8, a kill from Redl and another ace from Darling put Niagara back within two points of the lead, 12-10.
  • The Bison, however, dominated the remainder of the set, allowing the Purple Eagles just two more points as they won the set, 25-12, and tied the match, 2-2.
Fifth Set
  • Bucknell scored four straight points, but a Bison error and an ace from Bapst put Niagara within two points of the lead, 4-2.
  • Down by three, 7-4, an error from the Bison, a block from Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Vogen and an ace from Brown tied the score, 7-7.
  • The Bison got back ahead, 10-7, but three points from NU, including two more kills from Bapst, tied the score again, 10-10.
  • The Purple Eagles and the Bison were tied one more time, 11-11, but Bucknell scored four straight points to win the set, 15-11, and the match, 3-2.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Roberts recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and a team-high 20 digs.
  • Bapst led the team in digs with 12, tying her career-high.
  • Allen added a career-best 10 digs.
  • Darling had 18 digs and Brown added 10.
  • Brown and Streuer led NU in assists with 17 each.
