NU Wins Series With The Peacocks

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Purple Eagles won both games of a doubleheader with Saint Peter's to sweep the four-game season series. NU's 15-7 win in game two was its largest victory of the season.

Game Recap
  • A solo homerun and a two-RBI single from the Peacocks in the bottom of the second inning game them a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the top of the sixth, Maggie Kellner singled to right field, scoring Kelsey Harrigan to leave NU trailing by just two runs, 3-1.
  • Niagara's bats came alive in the top of the seventh. An RBI single from Harrigan put Niagara down by just one, 3-2. Kellner came up big, smacking a three-run homerun over the fence to put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 5-3.
  • The Peacocks added one run in the bottom of the seventh, but weren't able to overcome the Purple Eagles as NU earned the come-from-behind win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Heather Haberman had a team-high three hits. Harrigan and Kellner each had two hits. One of Harrigan's hits was a triple.
  • Kellner had a team-high four RBIs.
  • Riley Crum (7-7) earned the win. She threw a complete game, striking out three and giving up four earned runs on 10 hits.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles got off to an impressive start in game one, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. An RBI triple from Kellner put the Purple Eagles on the board. An RBI single from Rachel Funk, a two-RBI double from Samantha Hare and a two-RBI single from Kaity McInall put Niagara ahead, 6-0. The Purple Eagles batted around and, with Kellner back at the plate, she singled through the left side, driving in two more runs to put NU ahead, 8-0.
  • Saint Peter's scored five runs in the bottom of the second, cutting Niagara's lead to three runs, 8-5.
  • RBI singles from Harrigan and Haberman in the top of the third frame put the Purple Eagles ahead, 10-5.
  • Another RBI single from Haberman in the fifth put NU up by six, 11-5.
  • The Peacocks added one run in the bottom of the fifth, but NU still led, 11-6.
  • An RBI single from Kellner, a score from Maggie Vesneske on a Saint Peter's error and a two-RBI single from Funk gave Niagara a 15-6 lead.
  • The Peacocks added one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but Niagara maintained control to sweep the day's doubleheader.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Kellner led NU with four hits. Haberman and Vesneske each added three hits for the Purple Eagles.
  • Kellner had a team-high four RBIs and Funk had three RBIs.
  • Emma Collee (1-1) picked up the win in the circle. She struck out one and allowed one earned runs on four hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
