Niagara Sweeps DH With Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Purple Eagles swept a doubleheader against the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • An RBI single in the bottom of the first gave the Peacocks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
  • In the top of the second, a solo homerun from Heather Haberman tied the score, 1-1.
  • Niagara took the lead, 2-1, in the fifth inning after a sacrifice fly from Maggie Vesneske.
  • A sacrifice fly from Riley Crum on the top of the sixth frame gave the Purple Eagles a two-run lead, 3-1.
  • In the seventh, Kelsey Harrigan had a solo homerun and Haberman had her second homer of the game, driving in two runs to extend Niagara's lead, 6-1.
  • The Peacocks scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Niagara maintained control, earning the 6-2 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Haberman led the Purple Eagles with three hits.
  • Vesneske had one stolen base.
  • Crum (6-7) earned the win in the circle. She threw a complete game, striking out three while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits.

Game Recap
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Purple Eagles picked up momentum in the second. A two-RBI single from Vesneske put NU on the board. Madison Rastello and Vesneske both scored on bases-loaded walks and a sacrifice fly from Rachel Funk helped NU to a 5-0 lead over the Peacocks.
  • The teams remained scoreless for the next four innings, but a sacrifice fly from Avianna Peterson and an RBI double from Samantha Hare in the seventh extended the Purple Eagles' lead, 7-0.
  • The Peacocks scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout, but Niagara won game two, 7-1, to sweep the day.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Haberman, Maggie Kellner and Kaity McInall led NU with two hits each.
  • Vesneske had a team-high two RBIs.
  • Julia Thompson (2-5) picked up the win. She tossed her first career complete game. Thompson struck out two, while giving up just one earned run on six hits.
