Purple Eagles Earn Walk-Off Win In Game One Versus Quinnipiac

SCORE Niagara 7 – Quinnipiac 5

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – A walk-off homerun earned Niagara a win in game one in Saturday's doubleheader against Quinnipiac. The Purple Eagles split the day, and the series, with the Bobcats.

Game Recap
  • The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles in the top of the third inning, but Niagara quickly answered.
  • An RBI single from Shayna Myshrall put the Purple Eagles on the board. Maggie Vesneske scored on a wild pitch and then Myshrall scored. A sacrifice fly from Riley Crum plated Heather Haberman to give the Purple Eagles the lead, 4-3.
  • A two-RBI single from the Bobcats in the top of the fourth put them back in the lead, 5-4.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Vesneske singled up the middle, scoring Samantha Hare and tying the score at five runs apiece.
  • The Purple Eagles both went scoreless in the remainder of the seven scheduled innings, forcing the game into extras.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Maggie Kellner hit a two-run walk-off homerun to win the game for the Purple Eagles, 7-5. It was the first homer of her career.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske and Myshrall led the Purple Eagles at the plate with two hits each.
  • Kellner had a team-high two RBIs.
  • Crum (2-3) earned the win in the circle. She struck out three in 6.0 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • Two bases-loaded walks gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
  • In the bottom of the third, a sacrifice fly from Vesneske plated Olivia McClain to cut Quinnipiac's lead in half, 2-1.
  • An RBI single from Rachel Funk in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the score, 2-2.
  • Two two-RBI singles from the Bobcats in the sixth put them back in the lead, 6-2.
  • An RBI single from Haberman in the bottom of the sixth left the Purple Eagles trailing by just three runs, 6-3.
  • An RBI double from Crum and an RBI single from McClain added two more runs for NU, but it was not enough to overcome Quinnipiac, as the Purple Eagles fell to the Bobcats, 6-5.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Myshrall, Kellner and McClain led the Purple Eagles in hits with two each.
  • Emma Collee (0-1) took the loss. She struck out one in 2.0 innings pitched.
