NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles dropped a set of games to Monmouth on Saturday.
Prior to the start of game one, Niagara honored the class of 2021;
Bella Garone,
Maggie Vesneske,
Kelsey Harrigan,
Heather Haberman,
Bailey Stayner and
Rachel Funk. The Purple Eagles also honored 2020 graduates
Maria Gabriele and
Emily Johnston.
Game Recap
- Monmouth took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- In the bottom of the third, a two-RBI single from Haberman put Niagara in front, 2-1. With bases loaded, Riley Crum was hit by a pitch, sending Maggie Kellner home to give NU a two-run lead, 3-1.
- The Hawks reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning, 4-3.
- In the bottom of the sixth frame, Samantha Hare scored on an error by Monmouth's catcher to tie the score, 4-4.
- A two-RBI double and a bases loaded walk from the Hawks in the top of the seventh put them ahead, 7-4, and they held NU off in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.
Eagle's Eye On
- Hare led the Purple Eagles in hits with two.
- Haberman had a team-high two RBIs.
- Harrigan had one stolen base.
- Crum (5-5) took the loss in the circle. She fanned four and gave up seven hits and five earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched.

Game Recap
- The Hawks got on the board in the top of the first after an RBI single.
- An RBI single and a two-run homerun gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
- In the bottom of the second, Vesneske singled to right center, driving home two runs to cut the Monmouth lead in half, 4-2.
- Monmouth, however, dominated the remainder of the game, scoring three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to earn the 11-2 win.
Eagle's Eye On
- Kellner led the Purple Eagles with two hits.
- Vesneske had a team-high two RBIs.
- Hare (0-1) took the loss. She struck out one and allowed six hits and four earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched.
