NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara softball team dropped a pair of games to the Siena Saints on Tuesday.

Game Recap
  • Two RBI singles from the Saints in the top of the third inning gave them a 2-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Samantha Hare hit her first career homerun. Her homer, which sailed over the center field fence, scored two to tie the score, 2-2.
  • The Saints had a monster seventh inning, however, which included an RBI single, a two-RBI double, a grand slam and a solo homerun, and they came away with the 10-2 game one victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Maggie Vesneske had a team-high two hits.
  • Hare led the team in RBIs with two.
  • Riley Crum (5-4) tossed a complete game in the circle. She struck out three and gave up 13 hits and 10 runs.

Game Recap
  • The Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI double.
  • An RBI single from the Saints in the fifth inning extended their lead, 3-0.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI double from Rachel Funk and an RBI single from Crum left Niagara trailing by just one run, 3-2.
  • The Saints hit two homeruns in the top of the sixth frame which sent three runs across the plate to give them a four-run lead, 4-2.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Vesneske singled to second base, plating Olivia McClain to cut Siena's lead to three runs, 6-3.
  • The Purple Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but weren't able to capitalize and the Saints earned the win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske led the Purple Eagles in hits with two.
  • Crum, Funk and Vesneske each batted in one run.
  • Funk and Heather Haberman each had one double.
  • Julia Thompson (1-4) took the loss. She fanned one and gave up two earned runs on three hits in 4.0 innings pitched.

Up Next
  • Due to impending inclement weather, Niagara's doubleheader with the Saints schedule for Wednesday, April 21 has been postponed. A makeup date is still to be determined.
  • The Purple Eagles host Monmouth for a four-game series Aril 24-25.
