ALBANY, N.Y. – The Niagara volleyball team fell to crosstown rival Canisius, 3-0, in the semifinals of the MAAC Championships on Friday.

Match Recap
1st Set
  • The Griffs took a 3-1 lead to open the set, but the Purple Eagles scored six straight points, including two kills from Grace Hetterscheidt and Mary Redl and kills from Jessica Streuer and Jaycie Roberts, to take a 7-3 lead.
  • Canisius went on a 5-0 run to tie the score, 7-7, but an attack error from the Griffs put NU back in the leas, 8-7.
  • The Griffs reclaimed the lead, 9-8, before Niagara earned two points to take a 10-9 advantage.
  • Canisius went on a 10-2 run to get ahead of the Purple Eagles, 19-12.
  • Redl and Roberts each added another kill, but the Griffs earned the 25-15 set one victory.
2nd Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Griffs went back and forth and the score was tied six times early in the set.
  • A 4-0 run from NU, capped by kills from Roberts and Redl, put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 11-8.
  • The score was tied two more times before the Griffs scored five straight points to take a 17-13 lead over Niagara.
  • Kills from Hetterscheidt and Roberts brought Niagara within two points of Canisius, 17-15.
  • Four points from the Griffs extended their lead, 21-15, but Niagara made a quick comeback, scoring six straight points, including two more kills from Hetterscheidt and one from Cassie Seminoff, to tie the score, 21-21.
  • Canisius got back ahead, 23-21, but kills from Seminoff and Allie Simpson tied things up once again, 23-23. The Griffs, however, scored the final two points to win the second set, 25-23.
3rd Set
  • Niagara and Canisius traded points to open the third set and were quickly tied, 5-5.
  • The Griffs scored five straight points to take a 10-5 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Trailing 12-7, the Purple Eagles earned four consecutive points to come within one point of the Griffs, 12-11.
  • A kill from Seminoff helped keep the Canisius lead at one point, 13-12, before the Griffs scored three straight to extend their lead to four points, 16-12.
  • The Purple Eagles and the Griffs went back and forth and Canisius took a 23-17 lead. Niagara scored three straight points, capped by two more kills from Seminoff, to get back within three points of Canisius, 23-20.
  • A kill from Redl kept Niagara down by just three points, 24-21, but a kill from Canisius closed out the set and earned the Griffs the three-set victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Redl had a team-high 10 kills.
  • Roberts added eight kills and 14 digs.
  • Amanda Darling led the Purple Eagles in digs with 15.
  • Streuer had a team-high 14 assists and also added 14 digs.
  • Casey Brown (13) and Seminoff (10) also added double-digit digs.
