Kellner's Grand Slam Lifts Purple Eagles Over Jaspers

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – After falling to the Jaspers in game one, a grand-slam from Maggie Kellner earned Niagara a win in game two to split its season series with Manhattan.

Game Recap
  • A three-RBI homerun in the top of the first inning gave Manhattan the lead, 3-0.
  • Heather Haberman answered with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first to leave the Purple Eagles trailing by just one run, 3-2.
  • A two-run inside-the-park homerun, followed by a solo homer, extended Manhattan's lead, 6-2, in the third inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Maggie Vesneske singled down the right field line, plating Madison Rastello to cut the Jaspers' lead in half, 6-3.
  • Manhattan held Niagara off for the remainder of the game, scoring two more runs to earn an 8-3 win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske led NU in hits with two.
  • Haberman had a team-high two RBIs.
  • Samantha Hare had one stolen base.
  • Julia Thompson (1-3) took the loss in the circle. She struck out two and gave up five hits and six earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • Manhattan opened game two with a two-run homerun, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • In the bottom of the third, an RBI single from Haberman left the Purple Eagles trailing by just one run, 2-1.
  • Kellner was the difference-maker for the Purple Eagles. In the bottom of the fifth inning, with bases loaded, she homered over the right field fence, sending four runs across the plate.
  • Niagara kept Manhattan off the board in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the 5-2 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Kellner had four RBIs, which is her career-high.
  • Harrigan led the team with two stolen bases.
  • Riley Crum (5-3) earned the win. She tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
