Vesneske's Walk-Off Homer Secures DH Split

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – A walk-off three-run homerun from Maggie Vesneske in game two of a doubleheader versus Manhattan on Saturday evened the Purple Eagles' season series with the Jaspers at one game apiece.

Game Recap
  • In the bottom of the first, Heather Haberman singled down the left field line, plating Vesneske to put the Purple Eagles on the board. Kaity McInall reached base on a fielder's choice, giving Rachel Funk enough time to score and give Niagara a 2-0 lead over Manhattan.
  • A two-run homerun from the Jaspers in the top of the third frame tied the score, 2-2.
  • A three-run homer from Manhattan in the fifth inning put the Jaspers in the lead, 5-2.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Kelsey Harrigan smacked a two-run homerun over the center field fence, but the Purple Eagles were not able to overcome the Jaspers and dropped game one, 5-4.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske, Harrigan, Haberman, Riley Crum, McInall and Maggie Kellner each had one hit for the Purple Eagles.
  • Harrigan led the team in RBIs with two.
  • Vesneske and Kellner each had one stolen base.
  • Crum (3-3) took the loss in the circle. She tossed a complete game, striking out three and giving up seven hits and five earned runs.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first inning after Vesneske scored on a bases-loaded walk and a two-RBI single from Samantha Hare.
  • An RBI single from Funk in the bottom of the second innings extended Niagara's lead over the Jaspers, 4-0.
  • Manhattan scored three runs in the fourth, but Niagara maintained a one-run lead, 4-3.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Jaspers scored four more runs, taking their first lead of the game, 7-3.
  • A sacrifice fly from Olivia McClain and an RBI single from Madison Rastello left the Purple Eagles trailing by just one run, 7-6. With two runners on base, Vesneske homered over the center field fence, earning the Purple Eagles a 9-7 walk-off win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske had a team-high three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Kellner and Hare each added two hits and Hare batted in two runs.
  • Crum (4-3) earned the win. She struck out one and allowed one hit and three earned runs in 1.0 inning pitched.
  • Emma Collee tossed 2.0 innings for the Purple Eagles and fanned four.

  • The Purple Eagles wrap up their series against Manhattan on Sunday, April 18. The teams will play two more games at Niagara Falls High School, with game one set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
