NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles dropped their home opener to the Siena Saints, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon.
SYNOPSIS
The Purple Eagles, who were playing in their first game in over four weeks and were short-handed, were undone by a superb strike by the visitors.
Niagara had the better of play in the early minutes with
Djeynaba Thiam nearly scoring 30 seconds into the game but her effort skipped past the wrong side of the post. The Saints scored the game winner in the 13
th minute when Grace George found Rachel Sullivan at the 18-yard line spot and she placed her left-foot shot into the upper 90.
Thiam had Niagara's best scoring chance in the second half. After a turnover in the Saints box, Thiam had her point-blank shot saved by the Siena keeper in the 62
nd minute.
