MAAC Basketball Championships Seeds Set

The 2020-21 regular season has concluded and up next for the Niagara University men's and women's basketball program are the 2021 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships from March 8-13 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

  • No. 8 Niagara will play the ninth-seeded Siena Saints in the MAAC Tournament First Round on Tuesday, March 9 at 12 p.m. The winner will play top-seeded Marist on Wednesday, March 10 at 12 p.m.
  • The Purple Eagles and Saints were scheduled to play on the final week of the regular season, but the series with cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • Niagara and Siena last met in the MAAC Tournament in 2018. The teams have split the last 10 matchups.
  • Niagara's last game was a 78-69 win over Quinnipiac for the program's first win over the Bobcats.
  • Angel Parker leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with 14.5 ppg and 6.9 rpg. She is third in the MAAC in scoring, second in assists (5.9 per game) and 10th in rebounding. 
  • Niagara leads the MAAC in free throw percentage (73.7%) and steals (10.2 per game) and is the third-highest scoring offense in the MAAC with 62.5 ppg and third in field goal percentage (38.9%).

  • No. 5 seed Niagara and No. 4 seed Marist will face each other in the MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinal on Friday at 6 p.m.
  • The Purple Eagles and Red Foxes will meet for the sixth time in the last 14 months. The teams met in last season's MAAC Tournament First Round. The sixth-seeded Purple Eagles edged the 11th seeded Red Foxes, 56-54, on a layup by Raheem Solomon with three seconds remaining.
  • This season, the teams split a pair in Poughkeepsie to start 2021. After falling by two points on January 1, the Purple Eagles bounced back with an 86-72 win in a game where Niagara scored 20 straight points as part of a 26-4 run.
  • The Purple Eagles lead the MAAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2), turnover margin (3.2), and fewest turnovers per game (9.9) for the second straight season.
  • Kobi Nwandu (14.5 ppg) and Marcus Hammond (13.2 ppg) are fifth and ninth, respectively, in the MAAC in scoring.
