BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles defeated Canisius, 2-1, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday. It was Niagara's first victory over the Griffs since Oct. 30, 2013.

Game Recap
  • In the 30th minute, Asher Barnes put the Purple Eagles on the board. He was assisted by Ali Alomari.
  • The Griffs scored in the 31st minute to tie the score, 1-1.
  • The next 50-plus minutes were a defensive battle between the Griffs and the Purple Eagles but, in the 85th minute, Barnes found the net once again to score the game-winning goal. Federico Cugge and Goncalo Verissimo assisted on the goal.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Barnes' two goals were the first of his collegiate career. He took just two shots during the game and both found their mark.
  • Nuukele Gboe led the Purple Eagles in shots with three. Rodrigo Almeida added two shots.
  • The Purple Eagles outshot the Griffs, 13-7.
  • Josh Savoni (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season. He was in net for a full 90 minutes and made four saves.

  • The Purple Eagles host Canisius on Sunday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. The matchup will count towards the teams' conference records.
