HAMDEN, Conn. – The Niagara soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • The game was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Bobcats.
  • Nuukele Gboe took two early shots for Niagara in the first period, but neither hit their mark.
  • In the 33rd minute of the first period, Stephen Hasse took a high shot. In the final few minutes of the period, Herman Aalberg had a good opportunity with a shot to the bottom center of the goal, but it was saved by the Quinnipiac keeper.
  • Quinnipiac scored in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Aalberg and Gabriel Mikina had game-tying opportunities, but their shots missed the mark and the Bobcats earned the win.

Coach's Corner
  • "I'm really proud of our guys today; they played very hard," said head coach Bill Boyle "After over 500 days since our last game, we looked very good at times, both defensively and offensively. We have fixable issues and we will get better every game!"

Eagle's Eye On
  • Aalberg had a team-high three shots with one on goal.
  • Gboe added two shots with one on goal.
  • Rodrigo Almeida, Hasse and Mikina each had one shot.
  • Josh Savoni (0-1) started in net and made four saves.
