Women's Basketball Opens MAAC Play with Saint Peter's & Manhattan

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara will open the MAAC portion of its schedule at home with games against Saint Peter's and Manhattan. The Purple Eagles and Peacocks will tip-off league play on Friday, Dec. 17, at 6:00 p.m. from the Gallagher Center. 
 
Last Time Out: 
Angel Parker scored a career-high 29 points as the Purple Eagles nearly erased a 13-point deficit against Xavier; however, the comeback effort fell just short as Niagara fell 82-78.
• Angel added eight steals and six assists in the loss, while Aaliyah Parker scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds off the bench for the Purple Eagles.
Kyra Grimshaw added seven points and four rebounds in nine minutes of action.
Lore Porter went 2-for-5 from behind the arc to finish with six points. 
• Niagara recorded a season-high 77 field goal attempts. 
• The Purple Eagles recorded a season-best 21 steals.
• Niagara finished the game with 27 points off turnovers, 40 in the paint, and 22 on fast breaks. 
• The Purple Eagles grabbed 33 boards, with five Purple Eagles grabbing three or more.

Niagara Notes
• Niagara is 3-0 at home this season, with wins over Loyola (Md.), Colgate, and Cornell. 
• The Purple Eagles are currently scoring 70.5 points per game while shooting 36.1 percent from the field, including 25.6 percent from 3-point land. 
• Niagara enters the weekend with a 67.8 percent mark from the charity stripe.
• The Purple Eagles are third in the nation with 14.6 steals per game while ranking fifth in offensive rebounds (172) and forced turnovers (24.8) per game. 
• Freshman Aaliyah Parker was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday following an 18-point, five rebound effort against Xavier. 
• Parker has been named the MAAC Rookie of the week three times this season. 
Angel Parker leads NU in points (16.6), assists (5.9) and steals (4.8) per game. 
• Parker also leads the NCAA in steals per game. The junior has recorded three games with eight steals and has at least two in each game this season. 
Maddy Yelle and Ally Haar have contributed 9.4 and 8.6 points per game through eight games. 
Olivia Mason is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.9 caroms per game, while Aaliyah grabs a team-best 7.0 boards per contest. 
• Sophomore Lore Porter has been a scoring threat off the bench for the Purple Eagles, averaging 5.4 points per game. She scored a season-high 11 points in Niagara's win over Cornell on Dec. 4.

Series History: Saint Peter's
• Niagara has a 29-46 record all-time against Saint Peter's.
• Last season, the Purple Eagles had a 10-game win streak against Saint Peter's snapped in the most recent meeting with the Peacocks, falling 70-55 after an 83-82 win the day before. 
• Niagara is 12-3 against Saint Peter's under head coach Jada Pierce.

Series History: Manhattan
• Niagara is 33-31 all-time against the Jaspers.
• Manhattan swept the season series in 2019-20 with 75-61 and 68-65 victories over the Purple and White.
• Niagara's last win against the Jaspers came on Jan. 24, 2019, by the final score of 58-54.
• The Purple Eagles and Jaspers have split the last 10 meetings.
