Purple Eagles Earn Comeback Win Over Loyola

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (1-0, 0-0) erased a 19-point deficit to defeat Loyola (0-1, 0-0 Patriot) by the final score of 81-71 Tuesday afternoon at the Gallagher Center. Four Purple Eagles recorded double-figures, including a game-high 22 points from senior Ally Haar
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara started the game on a 10-2 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from Haar and Lexie Roe. Haar opened the scoring with a triple, and Roe capped off the run with a deep 3-pointer of her own.
• A 7-0 run pulled the Greyhounds within one point, 10-9, at the 1:44 mark.
Angel Parker would get a steal and a layup to put Niagara back up by three and help the Purple Eagles end the frame on a 7-3 run.
• Niagara ended the quarter shooting 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from the floor and 40.0 percent (2-for-5) from 3-point land.
 
Second Quarter
• Loyola would take the lead midway through the second quarter, 27-26.
• After taking the lead, the Greyhounds would finish the half on a 15-3 run, taking a 40-29 advantage into the locker rooms.
• Niagara went 6-for-7 from the line in the frame but struggled from the field as the team only connected on three of their 15 shot attempts. 
 
Third Quarter
• The Purple and White would find themselves down 19-points, 48-29, with 7:50 remaining in the quarter.
• Over the next 5:48 of game time, the Purple Eagles would outscore Loyola 25-9, tying the game at 54-54.
• Niagara went 10-for-12 from the field during the run, including a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point land. 
• Haar connected on back-to-back 3-point attempts to put Niagara down two, 54-52. 
Aaliyah Parker found Maddy Yelle for the fastbreak layup to tie the game, and Yelle would give NU its first lead since the second quarter after completing the 3-point play at the line. 
• In the final 2:28 of the third, Loyola would retake the lead and hold on to a 62-60 lead heading into the final stanza.
 
Fourth Quarter
 The lead wouldn't last long for the Greyhounds as Niagara scored the first three points of the quarter to go back on top, 63-62. 
Olivia Mason connected on one of her two free throws to put the Purple Eagles down one, and Parker would drive to the basket for a layup to give Niagara a lead that it would not relinquish.
• In fact, Niagara would outscore Loyola 20-9 the rest of the way, highlighted by six points from Parker, four from Yelle, three from Haar, as well as two points from Kyra Grimshaw, Aaliyah Parker, and Brooklyn Jones
 
Niagara Notes
• Haar finished the game 7-for-15 from the floor and 6-for-12 from behind the arc for a career-best 22 points. 
Maddy Yelle contributed 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting. The senior also grabbed three boards and two steals.
• In her collegiate debut, Aaliyah Parker reached 11 points, going 4-for-7 from the field. The freshman also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, and had two steals.
• Her sister Angel finished with 10 points, five assists, and three steals while playing a team-high 30-minutes. 
Olivia Mason, who finished with nine points, was the Purple Eagles leading rebounder with eight.
• Niagara won the battle on the boards, 31-27.
• The Purple Eagles scored 40 points in the paint and 20 off turnovers.
• Niagara shot 44.6 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from 3-point land, and 66.7 percent from the line.

• Niagara will head to the Great Lake State for two games, the first a battle with Oakland University on Friday, Nov. 12, and the second against Michigan State on Sunday, Nov. 14. Friday's contest between the Purple Eagles and Golden Grizzlies is scheduled for a noon tip on ESPN+.
